(Baonghean) - On average, each year, the Que Phong District Young Doctors Club provides free medical examinations to more than 1,000 people and distributes medicine worth nearly 100 million VND. This is a commendable action in the border area, where people's lives still face many difficulties.

The Young Doctors Club of Que Phong district coordinated to examine and provide medicine to people at the resettlement area of Pieng Cu village, Tien Phong commune.

Que Phong is one of the poorest districts in the country, the lives of the people still face many difficulties, especially those in remote areas, with little access to health care. Faced with this reality, in April 2011, the Que Phong District Young Doctors Club was established. After nearly 5 years of operation and development, the Club has promoted the ability and intelligence of the young medical staff in caring for and improving the health of the people. The activities have profound humanitarian significance, leaving a good impression in the hearts of the people.

Share with the community

Mr. Nguyen Minh Thuan, Secretary of the District Youth Union, Vice Chairman of the Que Phong District Young Doctors Club said: “The club currently has 65 members, mainly doctors, pharmacists, and nurses working in departments and offices of the District Medical Center and General Hospital. The club's motto is to go to people in remote areas, families in difficult circumstances, and poor households to examine, provide health care advice, and provide free medicine.”

With the set goals, in recent years, the team of young doctors in the Club has promoted the spirit of initiative and creativity, gradually affirming the pioneering and volunteering role in taking care of the community's health. The Club has effectively implemented the volunteering movement for community life. In the first year of its establishment, the Club coordinated to organize health examinations, health consultations and free medicine distribution for 1,221 people who are poor patients in difficult and border areas of Tri Le commune, mainly Mong ethnic people, whose lives are still difficult in Pa Khom, Huoi Moi 1, 2 villages; examined and distributed medicine to people in the resettlement areas of Hua Na Hydropower Plant. The Club also regularly visits and provides health examinations for policy families and families with meritorious services to the revolution in the district with a total value of medicine of over 118 million VND. On average, each year, the Club has called on philanthropists and sponsors to coordinate and organize 3 medical examinations, treatment, and free medicine distribution for nearly 1,000 people with a total medicine value of nearly 100 million VND.

Through the grassroots trips, in addition to examining, treating, and giving free medicine to people, the members of the Club also propagate and disseminate knowledge about health protection, how to prevent common diseases, provide advice on reproductive health care, family planning; equip knowledge and skills for each person to proactively prevent and fight diseases, build a hygienic lifestyle, exercise, limit lifestyles and habits that are harmful to health; improve the capacity of the medical team at the grassroots level; provide guidance on how to handle polluted environments after natural disasters and floods, prevent and control epidemics in the locality and train preschool teachers in first aid methods and provide nutritional advice to parents... The activities have created a good impression in the hearts of the people, have a strong influence, and have been recognized by people of all ethnic groups.

Continue the journeyto the poor

Through volunteer activities, members of the Que Phong District Young Doctors Club have many meetings and contacts with fellow countrymen, thereby feeling the meaning of life, bringing youthful energy to help poor patients in remote, isolated and extremely disadvantaged communes.

Doctor Nguyen Cuong, working at Que Phong District General Hospital, still remembers the first time he and other doctors in the Club organized medical examinations and gave medicine to people in a 100% Mong ethnic village in Tri Le commune. Although the roads were difficult to travel, when they arrived, they saw that people had been waiting for a long time to be examined and given health advice, making him and other doctors forget their fatigue and immediately start working. Through that first time, he felt the closeness and affection of the people, but more importantly, he and many doctors saw that the need for health examinations and advice for people in difficult areas was very great.

Pharmacist Lo Van Tuyen, a member of the club, shared: “Joining the club has helped me gain many experiences in life. Coming to the place and interacting with patients in difficult circumstances who do not have the conditions to go to the doctor for treatment has made me remind myself that I must contribute more and understand more deeply the teaching of Uncle Ho: “A good doctor must be like a mother”.

However, the most difficult thing in the Club's activities is that it is difficult to mobilize social resources, while the Club's funding is mainly supported by the District Youth Union calling for support from benefactors, and the people's health care activities are limited to medical examination, consultation and medicine distribution.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Thuan, Vice Chairman of the Club shared: “In the coming time, the Club will try to mobilize support from benefactors to have more medical examination trips to poor patients and policy families in difficult areas in the district”. With their efforts and enthusiasm, the team of young doctors and nurses in the Que Phong District Doctors Club strive to overcome difficulties and continue their journey to difficult villages and hamlets, because there are many people there who need sharing and help in health care.
