Areca nut is also called tan lang, binh lang, is the ripe seed of the areca tree. Spicy, bitter taste, warm properties; affects the spleen, stomach and large intestine meridians, areca nut has the effect of treating worms, also has diuretic effect. Used for cases of worms, indigestion, cramps, abdominal distension, diarrhea, dysentery syndrome, edema. Daily, use 4 - 12g by cooking, steeping, decoction. Can use high dose of 60 - 120g when deworming.
Some dishes with medicinal properties of tan lang:
Newborn porridge: 15g newborn, 50g rice. Boil areca nut to get water, boil the water with rice to make porridge, eat hot. Used for cases of indigestion, bloating, vomiting, constipation alternating with diarrhea.
Tan lang tran bi powder: 12g tan lang, 6g tran bi, finely ground, mixed with appropriate amount of honey, eat when hungry. Used for cases of belching and heartburn.
Tan lang am: 10g tan lang, 10g lai phuc tu, 5g tangerine peel. Crush tan lang, stir-fry lai phuc tu, wash and slice tangerine peel; boil the 3 ingredients to get the water, add sugar, stir well, let cool and drink several times a day. Used for cases of indigestion, bloating, loss of appetite, flatulence, belching, bad breath.
Pumpkin seed and mulberry porridge: mulberry 9g, hawthorn 10g, gypsum 10g, pumpkin seeds 20g, rice 60g. Boil the medicinal herbs to get the water; cook the water with rice to make porridge. Make once a day, divided into 2 meals. Use for 3-5 days. Treats liver cirrhosis with corneal degeneration leading to blindness in children, often combined with treatment of intestinal worms.
Five-flavor mulberry porridge: 20g mulberry, 9g schisandra, 12g alisma, 14g cassia seed, 10g wolfberry, 60g rice. Boil the herbs to get the water, then cook the water with wolfberry and rice to make porridge. Used for glaucoma patients with symptoms of dilated pupils, headache, nausea... (migraine).
Contraindications: People with weak spleen and stomach (hernia, gastroptosis, gastric prolapse...) should be careful.
