Provincial People's Council supervises Pu Huong Nature Reserve and Quy Hop Forest Protection Department

(Baonghean.vn)- Continuing the program of monitoring the handling of violations in the field of forest management, protection and forest product management, on May 16, the Legal Committee, Provincial People's Council worked with Pu Huong Nature Reserve and Quy Hop Forest Protection Department.

According to statistics in 2010 and 2011, Pu Huong Forest Protection Department detected and handled 90 cases of forestry law violations. Of which, 43 cases were handled for administrative violations, confiscating nearly 248 m3 of various types of wood, and collecting nearly 1.2 billion VND for the budget.

The Provincial People's Council's Legal Committee worked with Quy Hop Forest Protection Department and Pu Huong Nature Reserve.

In 2011, Quy Hop Forest Protection Department discovered and arrested 44 cases of forestry law violations, an increase of 22 cases compared to 2010, including 32 cases of illegal transportation of forest products; 12 cases of illegal trading and processing of forest products. Forest products confiscated were more than 40.7m3 of round timber and nearly 63m3 of sawn timber of various types. Nearly 475 million VND was paid to the state budget.

In 2011, Pu Huong Nature Reserve and Quy Hop Forest Protection Department did not have any direct resistance to law enforcement officers, but illegal loggers still committed acts such as setting up stakes, destroying roads, and dispersing illegal evidence, making it difficult to handle violations. In particular, in 2011, Pu Huong Nature Reserve had 4 officers violating regulations on forest protection and management and forest product management, causing serious consequences.

At the meeting, Pu Huong Nature Reserve and Quy Hop Forest Protection Department proposed to increase the staffing for the unit to serve professional work. In particular, increase the staffing for Pu Huong Nature Reserve because the unit's management area is too large, the core area of ​​more than 40,127 hectares is located in 8 communes of 5 districts Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Que Phong, Tuong Duong and Con Cuong while the unit's force is only 41 people.

The Supervisory Delegation of the Legal Department of the Provincial People's Council requested that the units coordinate well with the sectors and local authorities to effectively implement the work of forest management, protection and forest product management in the areas under their responsibility. The Delegation will also compile the recommendations of the units and send them to the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council and related departments and sectors.
