Women's team goes to France for first training session to prepare for 2022 Southeast Asian Championship

Last night (June 27), the national women's team took a direct flight to France for training to prepare for the tournament.2022 AFF Championship, taking place in the Philippines from July 2-14.

This is the first time the women's team has received an invitation to train and compete in a developed football country with a strong women's team like France. Here, the Vietnamese women's team will have a friendly match with the French women's team. Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team are eagerly awaiting this opportunity.

Commenting on this short training trip, coach Mai Duc Chung said that the goal of the women's team is to learn and exchange competition experience. "We will have a friendly match with the French women's team on July 1. This is an opponent that is many places higher than us in the FIFA rankings. This will be a valuable opportunity for the players to compete and gain experience for the Southeast Asian tournament and aim for the World Cup next year," said coach Mai Duc Chung.

After finishing the training trip in France, the women's team will move straight to the Philippines on July 2, officially participating in the 2022 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship.

Before going to France, the women's team completed 4 weeks of training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. Evaluating the team's 1-month preparation, Head Coach Mai Duc Chung said he was satisfied with the team's training results.

“The team’s recent training session fell during the hot weather in Hanoi, which affected the players’ physical strength to some extent. The coaching staff has overcome this by having the players practice earlier in the morning and later in the afternoon. The team has had 2 weeks of physical training and 2 weeks of professional preparation. Up to now, the basic preparation is guaranteed and relatively complete. If the weather is cooler, we will have better preparation,” said Coach Mai Duc Chung.

During the training period at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, the National Women's Team was arranged to play 3 friendly matches with different opponents. Last week, Coach Mai Duc Chung finalized the list of 25 players to train in France and participate in the 2022 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship. 3 young female players not on the list include goalkeeper Dao Thi Kieu Oanh, Thu Phuong and Phuong Thao.

Commenting on the young players, Coach Mai Duc Chung said: “The young players have made more progress than before. They adapted quickly, met the requirements of the coaching staff in the recent training sessions and initially understood the operation of the training in the national team. Young players such as Chau Thi Vang, Thu Xuan, Lan Anh and Truc Huong have all made progress, so I decided to choose them to compete this time.”
