National power system prepares to add 780MW
Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) is striving to complete the acceptance and power generation of Unit 2 of Son La Hydropower Plant (capacity 400MW), Unit 1 of An Khe-KaNak Hydropower Plant (80MW) and the coal-powered trial run of Uong Bi Thermal Power Plant Extension Unit 2 (300MW) this April.
At the same time, EVN continues to complete procedures to start construction of power sources as planned and ensure investment progress of transmission grid projects, especially synchronous projects, to release capacity of power sources and prevent grid overload.
Engineers and workers press the start button to idle unit 2 of Son La Hydropower Plant.
Previously, in the first three months of this year, EVN put into operation three units with a total capacity of 515 MW, including Unit 2 (Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant), Unit 1 (Dong Nai 3 Hydropower Plant) and Uong Bi Thermal Power Plant Extension 2; completed energizing 10 500/220 kV power lines and transformer stations, increasing the capacity of 220 kV stations.
At the same time, EVN also started construction of three transmission grid projects, which are 500kV lines: Vinh Tan-Song May, Phu My-Song May circuit 2 and Song May-Tan Dinh circuit 2.
With these efforts, along with the maximum mobilization of coal-fired thermal power sources, oil-fired thermal power, gas turbines... in the system and increased electricity imports from China, in April, EVN will not cut power nationwide, ensuring safe power supply to serve the activities to celebrate the Southern Liberation Day on April 30 and International Labor Day on May 1.
It is expected that this April, the power system can meet about 310 million kWh/day, with the largest capacity ranging from 15,500-16,000 MW.
Also according to EVN, in the first three months of the year, EVN's electricity production and purchase reached nearly 24.2 billion kWh, an increase of 10.62% over the same period; of which electricity production was 9.6 billion kWh, electricity purchase was 14.5 billion kWh, and import alone was 1.5 billion kWh.
Meanwhile, domestic commercial electricity increased by about 12.23%, of which electricity used for industry and construction increased by 15.93%, trade and services increased by 8.13%, and residential management and consumption increased by 8.14%.
