Potential dangers from 3 'old' bridges in Yen Thanh

(Baonghean.vn) -Currently, in Yen Thanh district, there are many degraded bridges that need to be repaired soon to ensure the safety of people traveling. Among them are 3 bridges: Dat, Cho An, Yen Dinh.

Dat Bridge across Dao River in Bac Thanh commune was built in the 1980s. After being used for a period of time, although it has been repaired, it is now seriously degraded, posing a potential danger to traffic.

A resident of Hamlet 6, Bac Thanh Commune, said that Dat Bridge has been degraded for a long time, the steel has rusted, and many places have been almost completely eroded. At the bridge abutment, the lower part of the bridge has almost completely peeled off the outer layer of mortar, exposing rusty iron bars, and every time a car passes over the bridge, it shakes violently.

“In 2004, the local government repaired some damaged spots and built bridge railings to ensure safety, but that was only a temporary measure,” said Mr. Le Van Thuy, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Thanh Commune.

According to Mr. Thuy, Dat Bridge has been included in the list of weak bridges and temporary bridges of the Ministry of Transport that need to be repaired or replaced. However, due to difficulties in funding, not only Dat Bridge but also many other bridges in the district have been damaged and degraded but have not been able to be replaced.

Cho An Bridge across Vach Bac River, Ma Thanh Bridge in Ma Thanh Commune connecting with Tho Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District to Provincial Road 537 after a long time of use, is now also seriously degraded.

Locals shared: Cho An Bridge no longer has a level to "go down"! The scariest thing is when traveling at night, if you don't observe carefully, you can fall into the river at any time.

Similarly, Yen Dinh bridge in Duc Thanh commune was built in 1978, is an important traffic hub of the northern communes of Yen Thanh district with National Highway 1A, due to long time of use and large traffic volume, the bridge has also seriously degraded.

Currently, the road leading to both ends of the bridge has large gaps, causing rocks and soil to fall back into the river. In the middle of the bridge, there are large torn pieces with rusty iron bars sticking out; the railings are damaged and broken in many places... Due to bearing a heavy load every day, the bridge is "bent" down in the middle of the bridge, at risk of collapsing.

Mr. Phan Thanh Cao - Head of the Department of Industry and Trade of Yen Thanh district said: "Currently, there are many degraded bridges in the district that need to be repaired and replaced. The district also knows the weak and degraded bridges in the area and regularly checks and evaluates the current situation to make early forecasts for people to know, ensuring safety for people traveling. To rebuild a bridge is very expensive, the local budget is limited, so the repair is facing many difficulties...".
