(Baonghean) - Tan Phu commune is the first locality in Tan Ky district to apply drip irrigation and sprinkler technology on hilly land, initially bringing clear results.

We were present at the model of intercropping squash in the rubber area (basic construction period) of Mr. Tran Xuan Cong in Tan Yen hamlet, Tan Phu commune (Tan Ky) when his family was concentrating on harvesting. Compared to previous seasons, this season, despite little rain, the squash plants still grew well and bore fruit. With the current selling price, each hectare of squash brings in an income of nearly 100 million VND, 2 times higher than the same period. This achievement is thanks to the fact that Mr. Cong has recently installed a drip irrigation system and sprinkler system in production, so he has been proactive in providing regular water for the plants. Mr. Cong said: "Installing this drip irrigation system and sprinkler system is very convenient because it saves labor time and watering evenly, so the plants grow well and give high yields."
This spring crop, Tan Phu commune has planted 170 hectares of watermelon and squash, mainly intercropped with rubber plantations in the basic construction period to "take short-term to support long-term", increasing income value on the same area. To facilitate intensive investment to increase productivity on hilly land, more than 30 households have accessed Korean drip irrigation technology introduced by Hadico Company to Tan Ky district in early 2014.

With just one valve adjustment, water is supplied to the entire field. |
From the effectiveness of this technology, people have drilled wells, built tanks and installed water pipes throughout the fields. The drip irrigation system, sprinkler system with an initial cost of nearly 20 million VND/ha, but this equipment can be used for a long time. In addition to proactively providing irrigation water, this system also brings the amount of fertilizer dissolved in water to each tree root, thus saving water and limiting the loss of fertilizer to the environment. The process of managing and operating this system by opening valves in each area saves labor, increasing productivity by 1.5 to 2 times compared to before. Thanks to proactively providing irrigation water, people have the conditions to increase production during the year, including the dry season. In 2014 alone, the model of intercropping squash combined with drip irrigation in the rubber tree area brought the people of Tan Phu commune a revenue of more than 10 billion VND.

Sprinkler irrigation methods and techniques are being strongly developed in the world, many countries apply over 90% of cultivated land area. In Vietnam in recent years, sprinkler irrigation techniques are also being deployed. 1. Water source: Use surface water (ponds, lakes, rivers, streams), or underground water (dug wells); However, the quality of irrigation water must be guaranteed and the reserves must be abundant. 2. Pumps to create pressure or use the terrain water column in some high mountain areas (through dams on streams). The most economical is to use natural water head compared to using pumps. Such sprinkler irrigation systems are called self-pressurized systems. 3. Pipeline system: Water from the source is led to the irrigation area by main pipes and branch pipes. On the branch pipes, artificial rain nozzles are installed to supply water to the plants. a. Sprinkler irrigation system with fixed pipes: The pipeline system is fixed underground, the nozzle can be fixed or mobile. This arrangement is highly efficient, convenient for operation management, low operating cost, occupies little land; convenient for automation but the efficiency is not high because it requires many pipes. Therefore, the investment capital per unit area is large. Therefore, this system is only suitable for vegetable growing areas, economic crops with urgent watering times, areas with large ground slopes, and complex local terrain. b. Semi-permanent sprinkler system: In this system, the pumping station or source has a fixed terrain head and a fixed main pipe, while the branch pipes and nozzles are mobile. Each branch pipe has 2-10 nozzles. This type is used for alternating irrigation. Because the branch pipes and nozzles are mobile, using alternating irrigation reduces the number of nozzles and branch pipes, so the investment capital is reduced. 4. Nozzle: (there are two types) a. Centrifugal nozzle: Water from the nozzle hole with a certain pressure to the tip of the cone and bounces back into raindrops distributed over a circular area. Due to the centrifugal speed and rotation speed after the water jet separates from the nozzle mouth, it will disperse evenly in all directions. Under the effect of air resistance, the water jet splits into raindrops on all four sides of the nozzle. The characteristic of this type is that when the pressure is not high; the level of rain distribution is still good. Therefore, this type of nozzle can be used for low pressure and short spray range. b. Jet nozzle: The working principle of this type of nozzle is that the pressurized water stream from the nozzle mouth meets air resistance and disperses into raindrops evenly distributed over a circular area. To spray the water far, the large nozzle is often arranged with a flow regulator. In high pressure sprayers, two types of nozzles are often arranged. The large nozzle has the effect of spraying far, the small nozzle sprays near. This ensures a uniform spray density. This type of nozzle often has high pressure and long spray range. TH(Synthetic) |
