The Dong Anh pumpkin growing model in Nam Trung commune gives high income, on average, people earn 120 million VND per hectare. |
In the summer-autumn crop of 2016, the Nam Tan Commune Party Committee decided to put into production 3 hectares of watermelon concentrated in the coastal area of Song Lam. Accordingly, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam - Hamlet 4, produced 4 sao, thanks to proper fertilization and timely pest control, so they entered the harvest with high productivity and good prices. With 4 sao of watermelon, her family earned nearly 30 million VND in net profit. Ms. Tam said: "My family has been growing watermelon for a few years. In general, growing watermelon is much more economically efficient than other crops, with an income of 6-7 million VND/sao."
Not only Nam Tan but also localities with large areas of alluvial land such as: Nam Thuong, Nam Tan, Nam Loc, Hong Long, Xuan Lam and communes in the 5 South region, the movement to convert the structure of crops and livestock in alluvial land areas has developed strongly, thanks to which specialized commodity cultivation areas have been formed, gradually forming local commodity markets such as spring peanut models, summer-autumn melons, corn and winter vegetables. Typical examples are the model of growing watermelons, potatoes, carrots on alluvial land in Nam Tan commune, the model of growing Dong Anh pumpkin in Nam Trung commune, Khanh Son and Nam Cuong chili peppers...

Pumpkin grown on alluvial land gives high efficiency |
However, besides the achieved results, the organization of production and exploitation of the potential of alluvial land in the area still faces many difficulties such as: Infrastructure serving production is still lacking, especially the irrigation system has not received investment attention; quality and quantity of products have not met market requirements; the consumption and distribution of products are not well organized, reducing production efficiency. The combination between producers and distributors, processors and consumers of products is not tight, there is no contract for product consumption.
Therefore, in order for the resolution to continue to be more effective in practice, it is necessary to invest in production infrastructure; build concentrated, large-scale safe vegetable and commodity production areas; areas with market conditions and production experience need to invest in developing the cultivation of valuable and economically efficient plants.
