Effectiveness of safe vegetable growing model in Tuong Duong
(Baonghean) This year, the family of Ms. Lo Thi Dien and Mr. Luong Van Thi in Phong village, Thach Giam commune, Tuong Duong district has a more stable income from growing various vegetables.
Harvesting right before, during and after Tet, vegetables are very expensive. Her family's total annual revenue from selling vegetables is more than 5 million VND. Ms. Dien said: "Growing vegetables is not hard work, the income is higher than farming, after harvesting, they can be sold immediately, the vegetables are clean so there are many buyers". With only more than one sao of land, her family has a mixed structure of growing many types of vegetables such as mustard greens intercropped with beans, aromatic herbs such as onions, coriander, garlic... In addition, nearly one sao of land growing large tomatoes of her family is promising a good harvest. Ms. Dien added: The area of clean vegetable growing of her family belongs to the Project of applying scientific and technological advances to build a safe vegetable production model in Thach Giam commune, Tuong Duong district. Participating in the project, her family has been invested in seeds, agricultural extension officers have been trained in techniques, and have come to the fields to guide people from the stage of preparing the land, sowing plants according to technical requirements. Irrigation water is also supported by the project, with a system that brings irrigation water to the fields.
Caring for and harvesting vegetables in Thach Giam (Tuong Duong)
Mr. Nguyen Van Thai, Hoa block
After nearly 3 months of implementation, the safe vegetable growing model in Tuong Duong district has been effective. From small-scale, self-sufficient vegetable production, people now know how to apply scientific and technical advances to commercial vegetable production, contributing to improving their lives. The safe vegetable growing model in Thach Giam commune is transferred by the Faculty of Agriculture - Forestry - Fisheries, Vinh University. The model is produced on an area of 2 hectares, with 25 households participating. Vegetables are grown with strict technical processes, strict requirements on production conditions (soil selection, irrigation water, seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and labor organization in production) and product characteristics. Evaluation after each harvest shows that people have grasped science and technology, especially the transformation of awareness in production and cultivation from self-sufficiency to commercial vegetable production.
Mr. Nguyen Ho Canh - Chairman of Tuong Duong District People's Committee said: "The new rural construction project through the support and assistance of the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Commission, Vinh University, Department of Science and Technology and with the district's capital, we have invested more than 1 billion VND in 2 economic models of Phong village, Thach Giam commune and Hoa Binh town for people to replicate the model and grow large tomatoes and vegetables. After nearly 3 months of implementation, many families have had income. On average, large families earn from 10 - 12 million VND, small families earn a few million VND. The most important thing we need is to change people's awareness from self-sufficient production to commodity production, quickly transforming the internal structure of the agricultural sector in the direction of: Reducing the area of rice and ineffective crops to growing safe vegetables, ornamental plants to ensure the goal of economic efficiency per unit area".
The construction of a safe vegetable production model in Thach Giam commune, Tuong Duong district not only opens a new direction for a particularly difficult commune but also creates a premise for a development direction associated with the advantageous conditions of each locality to develop goods suitable to market demand to increase income for people, especially in the western localities of the province.
