Effectiveness from active and synchronous participation
Women's Union and the responsibility of leading
In recent years, together with all levels and sectors in the province, the Provincial Women's Union has made many innovations in the content and methods of operation in population and family planning (DS - KHHGĐ).
Ms. Le Thi Tam, President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: The team of reporters, propagandists and the network of population collaborators are mostly staff of the Women's Union branches. Through training activities and capacity building for staff in the system of all levels of the union, the Women's Union has directed the integration of training and development of communication staff into training courses of programs and projects.
Every year, the Association has coordinated with relevant sectors and organizations to organize over 548 specialized classes on population, family planning and reproductive health care in districts, cities and towns for 812,000 members and women. In addition, the Association also organizes competitions: "Communication on population, family planning", "Knowledge on mother and child health", "Competition to learn about things needed for life". At the same time, it organizes seminars, discussions, club activities on topics, builds family models without malnourished children, small group activities on reproductive health, no third child... Organizes exchanges, shares experiences, promotes typical examples of progress in population/family planning work.
The Association has proactively coordinated with the health sector to organize practical activities such as regular health check-ups for women of childbearing age. It has opened training courses on knowledge dissemination on reproductive health care, population - family planning, prevention of child malnutrition, scientific child rearing, the Law on Gender Equality, gender imbalance at birth and solutions to overcome it, attracting 434,865 female cadres and members to participate in the training.
Mobilize women to regularly go for periodic health check-ups, encourage couples of childbearing age to implement the family planning policy well, in order to realize the model of a family with few children, healthy and happy. In particular, the Women's Union at the grassroots level has proactively advised local authorities to support funding and provide medicine for sick women with an amount of hundreds of millions of VND. Women's Unions at all levels mobilize 100% of women to go for periodic pregnancy check-ups and get enough vaccinations; mobilize mothers with children from 0 to 60 months old to get vaccinated and take vitamin A properly.
Women's Unions at all levels have implemented models integrating Population and Development, many of which have become bright spots that have been highly appreciated by sectors and levels and have expanded the models of specialized clubs. Up to now, the whole province has built 1,761 models of specialized clubs on maternal and child health care, family planning and population with nearly 500,000 members participating in activities. In addition, there are clubs for building happy families; clubs for preventing malnutrition; clubs for preventing domestic violence; clubs for grandmothers and grandmothers... Notably, the club for not having a third or more children has attracted 62,568 members, especially the participation of men and couples of childbearing age.
However, it is important to change the mindset, awareness and behavior of the subjects in implementing family planning and reproductive health care. To do that, the Women's Union has proactively exploited resources from international organizations, coordinated with the health sector to organize communication classes, distributed thousands of leaflets, posters, photo books, and communication tools on reproductive health and family planning to the grassroots level.
The associations at all levels have also trained a team of dynamic reporters and volunteers who are proficient in the skills of advising the community on reproductive health and family planning. They are ready to carry out propaganda at any time and any place when necessary, thereby helping to disseminate knowledge about reproductive health and family planning widely. Currently, the province has over 6,000 reporters and propagandists at all levels of associations, who are the core force in communication activities on population, family planning and reproductive health at the grassroots level.
When farmers "plan"
The "Farmers, population and development" Club model with 5 criteria "prosperity, health, equality, progress and happiness" is one of the effective models in the coordination between the Farmers' Association and the Population and Family Planning sector. Through the Club model, the association integrates and conveys many contents such as: disseminating the population ordinance; providing guidance on reproductive health care; building the association, transferring advances, science and technology, providing guidance on how to do business... attracting 40-50 members/club.
Currently, the whole province has established 22 Population-Family Planning Clubs, of which the most prominent are the "Farmers, population and development" Club in Huong Nguyen, Anh Son, Con Cuong districts; "Men giving birth to only one child" Club in Do Luong, "Communication on reproductive health - family planning - Gender equality with savings credit and agricultural extension" in Thanh Chuong, Tan Ky, Dien Chau, Nghi Loc; "Farmers with population and development" Club... have played a positive role in implementing population - family planning policies in rural areas.
Faced with the alarming situation of the sex ratio at birth at 1 boy/100 girls, the Farmers' Association at all levels has piloted an intervention model to reduce the gender imbalance at birth. That is to innovate the method of operation, integrate propaganda content with the organization of seminars on the topic of gender imbalance at birth in the activities of farmers' clubs such as the Population - Family Planning Club, the Sustainable Development of Farmer Families Club, the Male Farmers' Club not having a third child, the 6 Standards Club... The direct and main target of the above activities are male farmers, because in reality in many rural areas and many families, men are the ones who decide everything.
In parallel, the associations at all levels have included the implementation of the population and family planning policy in the criteria for evaluating and classifying "Cultural Farmer Families" and "Good Production and Business Families" at all levels; and classifying strong groups and branches annually. Up to now, the whole province has over 46,000 good production and business farmer households at all levels; 360,000 farmer households have been recognized as Cultural Families, these are also households that have implemented the population and family planning policy well.
