On March 5, President Hugo ChavezVenezuela, was officially announced dead. His death left behind much sorrow from the entire people of this country as well as international friends.

Mr Chavez first came to power in 1998, was re-elected in 2000 and 2006 and was recently re-elected for a fourth term as president. However, due to health conditions, he is unable to continue.

He was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. In 2012, after the October election, he was taken toCubafor treatment then taken homeVenezuelaand was cared for in a military hospital for several weeks before his death.

The BBC reports that there were some disturbances after the announcement of Mr Chavez's death. Some attackers set fire to the tent of a group of students demanding more information about Mr Chavez's death, but no one was injured. Mr Chavez's successor, Vice President Maduro, has said the disturbances were caused by opponents. Defence Minister Diego Morelo Bellavia said the army would remain loyal to the vice president and the National Assembly and urged calm.
