Heartbreaking images after suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria
Syrian medical experts say at least 70 people have been killed and countless others injured in a suspected chemical weapons attack on the rebel stronghold of Douma, Eastern Ghouta.
According to doctors, many of the casualties were children. Images recorded after the incident showed a tragic scene in Douma.

Local residents had to take shelter in their homes and were trapped under the rubble. Local authorities later received many reports of suspected cases of suffocation and difficulty breathing.

Immediately after the incident, medical staff rushed to treat and detoxify the victims, including many children.
According to BBC news agency, Douma is the last town in the Eastern Ghouta region still under rebel control. Government forces have increased airstrikes targeting the town in recent days, after peace talks collapsed.
The opposition accused a barrel bomb containing the nerve gas sarin of being dropped by helicopter on Douma on April 7, affecting more than 1,000 people. However, the Syrian government has denied the allegations and called the information about the chemical attack in Douma "fabricated".
