Right in the first days of the Year of the Rooster, Coach Huu Thang received good news that VFF will hire a foreign doctor to support medical work for the U22 team and the Vietnam national team.

It is known that VFF has basically reached an agreement with a German doctor. The search for a doctor for the Vietnam National Team has gone quite smoothly with the help of two other Germans, Technical Director Gede and fitness expert and rehabilitation specialist Martin Forkel. Thus, after officially signing the contract, the Vietnam National Team will have 3 quality "Westerners" to take care of everything from training plans, practice, to fitness, diagnosis and injury treatment for the players.

Previously, in a meeting with Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Coach Nguyen Huu Thang frankly commented on the weaknesses of the country's football, in which the diagnosis of player injuries was put first.

Accordingly, Coach Huu Thang has asked the Minister for permission to direct the General Department of Sports and Physical Training to allow departments, including football, to hire foreign medical experts to conduct initial injury consultations for players. This is a very important task, because the Vietnamese team at the recent AFF Cup suffered serious losses due to not accurately assessing the injury situation of the players.

“The injury check-up seemed simple, but because of a wrong diagnosis, the entire tournament was missed. Tuan Anh and Hoang Thinh only had minor injuries, but the Vietnamese doctors were not qualified enough and made a wrong diagnosis, causing the players to miss an important tournament, affecting the team's performance," said coach Huu Thang.

After receiving instructions from the Minister to prepare the best in all three aspects: physical strength, technique, and tactics, including the need for a foreign doctor to help coach Huu Thang detect player injuries early, VFF searched and finally found a German doctor.

Thus, with the new contract extension of fitness expert and rehabilitation specialist Martin Forkel for another year, VFF and coach Huu Thang will have 3 “Westerners” to support their training. This is really good news because this year the U22 Vietnam team will have an extremely important responsibility at the 29th SEA Games, taking place in Malaysia next August. In addition, the Vietnam national team will also begin the final qualifying round of the 2019 Asian Cup next March.
