Coach Kiatisuk will only go to Singapore if U23 Thailand reaches the final.
The young Thai coach was not present to directly direct his players in the 28th SEA Games, because he wanted to focus fully on the Thai team participating in the second qualifying round of the 2018 World Cup - Asia region.

“The second qualifying round of the 2018 World Cup – Asia region is more important. Therefore, I want to devote all my heart and soul to the Thai team. The task of leading the U23 Thailand team to compete in the 28th SEA Games is assigned to my assistants Choketawee Promrat and Virat Wangchan,” Coach Kiatisuk Senamuang shared with VnExpress after a closed training session with the Thai team this afternoon, May 23.
“After the opening match with Vietnam, the Thai team will continue to focus on preparing for the match in Taiwan on June 11. Therefore, I can only go to Singapore to directly lead the Thai U23 team if the home team reaches the final of the 28th SEA Games.”
Coach Kiatisuk is currently leading both the national team and the U23 team of Thailand. Therefore, the legend of Thai football faces difficulties when the schedule of the second qualifying round of the 2018 World Cup - Asia region overlaps with the 28th SEA Games.
Coach Toshiya Miura also holds the same position as his young colleague, but the Vietnamese team will not play the second match of the second qualifying round of the 2018 World Cup - Asia region, against Indonesia until September 3, so the Japanese strategist can still directly lead the team at the 28th SEA Games.
After the match with Thailand, on the morning of May 25, Coach Miura and seven U23 players who have strengthened the national team, including Ngoc Hai, Tan Tai, Huu Dung, Huy Toan, Hong Quan, Thanh Hien and Minh Tung, will fly straight to Singapore to prepare to compete at the 28th SEA Games.
At the Congress in Singapore, U23 Vietnam is in the same group with U23 Thailand, U23 Malaysia, U23 Brunei, U23 Laos and U23 Timor Leste.
