(Baonghean) - Coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh talked with Nghe An Newspaper reporter about the current refereeing work in V.League...

PV:Refereeing has always been the most controversial issue in V.League in recent seasons. What do you think is the cause of this situation?

Coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh:Football is a competitive sport, with fierce competition, requiring referees to be extremely agile and alert. But referees sometimes make mistakes. In theory, the V.League has now been upgraded to a professional tournament, accordingly, referees are increasingly more professional. However, in recent times, referees have made suspicious mistakes. The organizing committee has also stopped or temporarily suspended the work of some referees who have made mistakes in order to rectify this situation. The mistakes can also be due to professional or other reasons.

Sometimes he misjudges the situation, but sometimes he has feelings for this or that team. Recently, some referees with good skills but ethical violations have been dismissed by the organizing committee. Currently, some young referees who have just been promoted to the V.League do not have much experience and are not used to great pressure, so their "judging" is not good. As for finding the specific cause, no one else but the VFF and the Referee Board will know the reason why the referee is weak and makes mistakes.

PV:To correct the errors that affect the results of matches, the organizing committee is currently planning to invite foreign referees to officiate some matches at the end of the season. What is your comment on this issue?

Coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh:Someone asked me about this issue before, I just said this: If we invite foreign referees to officiate important matches, it is no different than admitting that our current referees are very weak!

Meanwhile, our referees today have a lot of FIFA level, but why are they not trusted? In my opinion, we have to consider this carefully. Don’t let the situation of not trusting our brothers and then hiring outsiders to do the job.

PV:According to you, what do we need to do to make refereeing in V.League more professional and limit mistakes?

Coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh:I think referee education is very important and there should be strict sanctions in handling violations. We should not cover up the wrongdoings of referees. I see that FIFA is different from ours. While FIFA handles things very transparently, in our country, when handling discipline and reprimanding referees, it is often done internally and secretly. In my opinion, it is time for us to be transparent in how we handle referees' mistakes so that everyone can see what they did wrong and how they are handled. That way, people will be afraid. In addition, we must also train young referees to have a source of replacements. So that when referees make basic mistakes or have biased handling situations, we will have someone to replace them.
