British passports will lose their 'powerful' status when Britain leaves the EU
With the prospect of Britain leaving the EU, it will be harder for British people to travel to European countries as easily as before. In addition to a passport, visitors will need many more visas to travel from one country to another.
While previously having a British passport made travelling abroad easier, the outlook is now less rosy. According to the 2015 rankings, British passport holders can travel to 175 countries without a visa.
Although not the most powerful passport in the world, the UK's position is only behind Germany - the country with the passport that allows you to travel to the most countries in the world without a visa (177) and Sweden, having a British passport is the dream of many people. However, when the UK leaves the EU, the value of the British passport will decrease significantly.

The most powerful passport in the world. |
According to the data, when Britain leaves the EU, the position of the British passport will plummet to 30th place in the ranking. According to the list, in 2015, all European countries were in the top of the list of powerful passports. This is thanks to the cooperation between countries and the free travel policies without visas within Europe.
Leaving the European Union, Britain's position will fall even further below countries such as Portugal, Slovenia, Greece and Bulgaria.

This will be a concern for many British tourists as their travel to Europe is clearly affected. |
This could be bad news for Brits as travelling to France or Western Europe could become more difficult in the near future. Previously, if Brits wanted to travel to France or Western Europe, they could only travel through the undersea tunnel or take short flights. Now, visa procedures will certainly be more complicated, depending on the regulations of the countries with the UK.
However, these regulations will not apply immediately after the referendum. It will take a few years for the regulations to be clearly implemented. Therefore, in the near future, travel between the UK and the EU will not be affected much and tourists can still travel comfortably this summer.
