Breeding support for livestock
(Baonghean) According to the leader of Nghe An Livestock Breeding Center, in recent years, our province has focused on developing livestock and poultry breeds towards improving productivity and quality, considering it a breakthrough in commercial livestock farming.
The Sind crossbred cattle development program continues to develop well. The Sind crossbred cattle herd accounts for 40% of the total herd of the province (190,000 crossbred cows and calves). The pig herd improvement is moving towards 3/4 foreign bloodline to develop widely in both the lowlands and the highlands. There are currently 90 grandparent-level foreign pig breeding farms and over 2,500 foreign sows, producing 800-100 thousand breeding pigs annually.
The poultry sector has also developed strongly. People often choose new high-yield breeds such as French geese, super-egg ducks, Luong Phuong chickens, industrial chickens, etc. Thanks to that, the whole province's poultry flock still meets the plan of 15 million birds. However, in recent years, due to the slowdown in livestock and poultry farming (due to diseases, increased feed prices, and harsh weather), livestock breed producers face low profits and many risks.
To support breeding for livestock to ensure that by 2015 the total herd of pigs reaches 1.5 million, of which the proportion of lean pigs accounts for over 50% and the total sow herd is 26,000, the Provincial People's Council has recently decided to support the production and business of breeding livestock in a comprehensive manner. For example, support of 650,000 VND/female piglet for grandparents and parents.
Households raising 30 or more sows are supported with a male pig, the corresponding support level is 1.5 million VND/pig; 50% support for the price of foreign breeding boars to replace the additional breeding boars at the province's artificial insemination unit. Likewise, to achieve the target of a total herd of buffalo and cows by 2015 of about 1 million, increase the herd of dairy cows and calves above the planned herd of 48,000 and develop a herd of beef cattle with good meat yield, the province also supports 100% of the cost of buffalo semen, dairy cow semen, Zebu and Brahman beef cattle semen... supports breeding materials and supports 50,000 VND/pregnant cow.
At the same time, 60% - 80% of the value of male buffaloes from other regions will be supported to directly breed with female buffaloes in the plains and mountainous areas. Households raising calves for commercial purposes will be supported with bank loan interest rates (each calf is 4 million VND for 12 months). In addition, rare and precious breeds that need to be protected and expanded are encouraged and invested in more, such as: Mong Cai pig breed, Muong Khuong pig, purebred HF dairy cow, Hmong cow, Quy duck, black chicken...
It can be said that with the above support policy, breeders are more likely to make a profit than before. The authorities and the Livestock Breeding Center have been summarizing and drawing experience after 15 years of applying the priority policy on the field of breed production, and will certainly advise the Provincial People's Committee on many new and more practical solutions, to bring the structure of the livestock sector in agriculture at the end of the term from 39.5% to over 45%, ensuring the sustainability of agriculture and commensurate with the potential of the province.
