On the morning of June 10, at Tho Quang fishing port, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Da Nang Fisheries Association organized a capital donation ceremony for 55 offshore fishing boat owners in Da Nang. Each boat owner was supported with 50 million VND and a basket boat worth 6.2 million VND. The total amount of more than three billion VND was contributed by businesses, agencies, units and readers of Tuoi Tre Newspaper.
Since China brazenly and illegally placed the Haiyang Shiyou 981 drilling rig in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, in recent days, fishing boats of fishermen from the central region fishing in the traditional fishing grounds of Hoang Sa have been continuously rammed, oppressed, and obstructed by Chinese ships.
Among them, one fishing boat was sunk, many others were severely damaged, and fishermen's lives were threatened. However, fishermen in the Central region in general and Da Nang in particular remained steadfast in fishing at sea, while affirming and participating in protecting the traditional fishing grounds of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, and protecting the country's sovereignty over the sea and islands.
Fisherman Tran Van Thuan, owner of an offshore fishing boat in Son Tra district, said: "My family will use the support money to buy more fishing gear, purchase machinery and equipment, and continue to go to Hoang Sa to fish."
At the ceremony, Mr. Tran Van Linh, acting Chairman of the Da Nang Fisheries Association, once again strongly condemned the inhumane act of the Chinese ship that sank the Vietnamese fishing boat. Mr. Tran Van Linh expressed his gratitude to everyone who joined hands and contributed to promptly supporting fishermen to stay at sea with peace of mind.
Up to now, the Da Nang Fisheries Association has also received five billion VND from domestic and foreign agencies, units and individuals to support fishermen.
The program "Joining hands to protect the sovereignty of the East Sea" has received more than 35 billion VND from individuals, organizations, and businesses, providing practical support to fishing boat owners, fishermen, and the fisheries surveillance and coast guard forces on duty to protect Vietnam's Hoang Sa waters.
