According to Prava, Russia's "fire god" Iskander-M will become many times more dangerous with its new capabilities. Specifically, if previously this missile system could only attack fixed ground targets, now, with the high-precision cruise missile R-500 "Kalibr", Iskander-M can also attack static targets at sea such as anchored ships.
"Iskander-M has a near-ballistic trajectory and can destroy all ground targets," military expert Alexei Leonkov explained to Sputnik.
"But with the Kalibr cruise missile, the target of this complex will be second and third class warships, for example the US destroyer Eagle Burke, which is equipped with Tomahawk missiles and the Aegis missile defense system."
The strike range of the "Kalibr" missile is up to 500 km, and in the final flight phase the missile's speed is about Mach 3.
"The missile flies at an altitude of only 5-10 meters, making all defense systems on the ship almost helpless. The missile has many different warhead sizes, ensuring it is suitable for all types of targets," Mr. Leonkov explained.
