The plight of two orphaned children
(Baonghean) -We visited the home of two children Cao Dinh Quyen (10 years old) and Cao Dinh Ky (6 years old) in Hamlet 1, Trung Thanh Commune (Yen Thanh District, Nghe An) on sunny days in July. At the age of eating and playing, the two children suddenly became orphans of both parents, due to a tragic accident.
Mr. Cao Dinh Quan, the children's grandfather, slowly told us about the family's great loss with a heavy sigh. Their mother died of cancer 6 years ago, their father passed away 5 months ago while working on stone in Len Dat. Currently, the two children are living with their aunt who is often sick, and their grandparents who are over 80 years old and are taking care of their mentally ill daughter.
“Perhaps there is no more tragic situation here, uncle. I am now old and weak, and I do not know what the future of my two children will be like.” - The old man shared with us about his family situation. Indeed, the two children are too young to understand such great losses, and difficulties are piling up day by day on the shoulders of the old couple. In this barren and rocky land, people only have a few meters of land for agricultural production, and in their spare time, people flock to the quarries to work for hire. The wages are not worth much, but for the sake of making a living, they have to accept dangerous risks.
Two brothers Quyen and Ky at their father's altar.
The grandparents are now old and can no longer do anything. The aunt is often sick. In their free time, the two children often go to the mountains to herd cows to earn money to buy rice for the family, then go to collect firewood, do odd jobs... Due to their circumstances, even though they are still at the age of playing, they have to worry about making a living early.
Uncle Hai, our enthusiastic neighbor who showed us the way, shared: "The family circumstances of these two children are indeed very difficult. They are too young to understand the pain of their family. Their grandparents are also old and do not know when they will die. They only hope for the help of society for these especially difficult circumstances."
Mr. Le Van Binh - Hamlet 1 Chief shared with us: "Before, the children were still taken care of by their parents, but unfortunately the accident left them orphaned. The local authorities often come to visit and encourage them. The road ahead for the two brothers Quyen and Ky is still full of hardships and challenges. We hope that the two brothers will soon overcome this difficulty."
Saying goodbye to the two children and the old couple, I wondered what their future would be like. The grandparents were also old and weak and I didn’t know how much longer they would live. More than ever, Quyen and Ky needed the community’s support.
