Complete summer-autumn rice planting

(Baonghean) -Up to this point, Nam Dan has basically completed the summer-autumn rice planting. Nam Dan district continues to direct people to actively stick to the fields, invest in intensive farming, and fertilize according to the correct process to bring high productivity and efficiency.

In Hung Tien field, people have finished planting the summer-autumn crop. Ms. Le Thi Thuy - Xuan Lam hamlet finished planting 3 sao of Khang Dan 18 rice, said: "This year, knowing about the drought and unusual storms, we proactively planted earlier to take care of the rice and be able to harvest before the flood". This summer-autumn crop, the whole commune organized and directed people to plant over 380 hectares of rice, mainly purebred rice varieties with a short growing period of 90-105 days to harvest before the flood such as Khang Dan 18, sticky rice 8797, NA2.

Mr. Bui Minh Thong - Vice Chairman of Hung Tien Commune People's Committee said: It is forecasted that this year the drought will be concentrated in June and July, so in areas where water is difficult to control, high resistance, and ineffective rice areas such as Dong Trai and Muong areas will switch to growing beans and watermelons. In areas where water is controlled, rice cultivation will switch to intensive crop cultivation to increase income such as Bau hamlet Dong Van, Cu Canh hamlet Xuan Lam, Tieu Than hamlet Phuc Chi. At the beginning of the season, due to the impact of a tornado accompanied by hail that knocked down 150 hectares of spring rice at harvest age, the progress of the summer-autumn crop did not meet the plan.

However, the commune directed people to promptly use 60 hectares of Khang Dan seeds that they produced themselves in the spring crop to soak and incubate seeds in time for the summer-autumn crop. In particular, facing the risk of prolonged drought, the water source from Dong Trai and Cau De (irrigating 150 hectares of rice) is difficult to ensure, the commune advocated mobilizing people to use oil pumps, electric pumps, and directed the irrigation team to regularly check the fields and build embankments to retain water. Currently, more than 80% of the summer-autumn rice area has been sown by people, the remaining area is mostly lacking water, people take advantage of all irrigation conditions to plow the land. The whole commune strives to close the crop calendar before June 10 and before May 30 for the low-lying and deep-lying areas.

In the flood-prone area of Nam Dan district, the summer-autumn rice fields have basically been completed earlier than other areas. Mr. Pham Van Phuong - Head of the Commune's Agriculture Department said that although this year the selling price of agricultural products has dropped by nearly 1/3 times, the price of pure rice fluctuates at 5,500 VND/kg, the price of peanuts is 18,000 VND/kg, while in previous years the price of rice was 8-10,000 VND/kg, the price of peanuts was 25-26,000 VND/kg, people are reluctant to invest in summer-autumn production.

However, in the spirit of strong leadership, the commune mobilized people to stick to the season and the fields. Taking advantage of the completed 2km secondary canal system, the Nam Trung pumping station with an operating capacity of 3,000 m3/hour ensures irrigation water for the early summer-autumn crop. The commune implemented a plan to plow the soil and soak summer-autumn seeds immediately after the spring rice harvest. People proactively sowed rice seedlings 5-10 days earlier than every year, currently closing the area. The commune has purchased 1.6 tons of pure seeds for people to harvest in time for the summer-autumn crop.

This year's summer-autumn crop, according to forecasts, is at risk of long-term drought, and storms and rains come earlier than usual. In particular, this is also the time when communes in Nam Dan district simultaneously carry out land conversion work, so the investment in intensive farming by households is somewhat limited. In this condition, the district's viewpoint is to require communes to base on the spring rice harvest time to produce suitable and flexible varieties. For direct-sown areas, people are directed to only sow early-ripening spring rice directly, and areas that are frequently flooded or have late spring rice harvests must be planted and transplanted.

For deep pond areas, rice left to die or fallow must use mutant P6, PC6 varieties, apply the method of uprooting and transplanting seedlings to harvest before flooding. For non-flooded areas, use pure short-term varieties NA2, glutinous rice 352, DT52, QR1, and can be sown directly after harvesting spring rice. Communes strictly follow the crop calendar to ensure summer-autumn rice harvest before August 30 for deep areas and harvest before September 10. For autumn-winter peanuts and watermelons, do a good job of keeping moisture, making high beds, having drainage ditches to avoid flooding right after harvesting spring crops, do it as soon as possible, cover 100% of the area with nylon.

Up to now, the entire Nam Dan district has completed nearly 6,200 hectares of summer-autumn rice cultivation according to the crop schedule. Communes that have completed the good progress are those with favorable irrigation conditions such as Nam Tan, Nam Loc, Nam Giang, Kim Lien, Xuan Hoa. Some other areas have proactively arranged the direct sowing and planting schedules earlier than every year such as Nam Cuong, Nam Kim, Nam Phuc, Nam Trung, Khanh Son to proactively harvest to avoid flooding. Currently, many rice fields in Nam Hung, Nam Thai are suffering from drought, the water source in the dam and river system is difficult, the pumping station is at risk of hanging the tap, so it is impossible to continue sowing and will switch to growing vegetables such as green beans and sesame. The district assigned the pumping stations of communes and the Irrigation Enterprise to increase the regular irrigation schedule, review the area of copper soil, industrial crops, and vegetables to develop an irrigation plan for each specific land area.
