This is a group 1 tournament of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), so it attracts many of the world's top young talents, including the world's 6th-ranked junior tennis player Nikola Milojevic (Serbia).
Hoang Nam's victory was one of the biggest surprises of the opening day of the main round because the 7th seed Kerznerman is ranked 113th in the world junior rankings, 163 places higher than Hoang Nam. Returning to the familiar hard court after nearly a month of training on clay, Hoang Nam had an impressive start.
The Vietnamese player quickly overwhelmed Kerznerman with his bold and daring play to easily win the first set 6-2. The same scenario happened in the second set, this time Hoang Nam won even more quickly with a score of 6-1.
Hoang Nam is the first Vietnamese athlete to enter the 2013 Games and has achieved an impressive victory. This is a good sign for Vietnamese sports in early 2013.
Hoang Nam's opponent in the second round is the winner of the match between Ortiz Adrian (Mexico) - Jose Iqnacio (Costa Rica). Ortiz Adrian is the one who played men's doubles with Hoang Nam at the Abierto Juvenil Mexicano International Junior Tennis Tournament held in Mexico last week.
