Hoang Yen won the runner-up prize at the World Chess Championship.
Good news for Vietnamese chess when on the afternoon of October 26, chess player Nguyen Hoang Yen excellently won the Silver Medal in the women's individual event at the 2013 World Chess Championship held in China.
In the women's individual event, the players will compete in 9 rounds in a round-robin format. After 8 rounds, the Vietnamese female player has achieved 14 points with 7 wins and only 1 loss to the top player on the ranking, Tang Dan from China.

In the final 9th game, Hoang Yen was held to a draw by American player Jia Dan and finished the tournament with 15 points, 2 points behind Tang Dan and had to settle for second place. Along with this Silver Medal, Hoang Yen will receive a prize of more than 2,000 USD.
In the men's individual event, the championship belonged to Chinese player - Wang Tian Yi with 16 points. On the Vietnamese side, player Uong Duong Bac lost in the secondary index so he ranked 4th overall, while player Ton That Nhat Tan ranked 9th out of 12 participating players.
With this result, the Vietnamese team won the bronze medal in the men's team event, ranking only behind China and Macao China.
