Vocational training is easier to get a job than university
Mr. Cao Van Sam, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Vocational Training, said that the increasing rate of students choosing to only take the graduation exam shows that there has been a change in career orientation thinking. Practice has proven that vocational training makes it easier to get a job and even earns a higher income than university education.
Perceptions of careers are changing
According to a survey by the Department of Education and Training, this year many localities and schools have a high percentage of candidates registering for graduation exams only compared to the 2015 national high school exam. In some localities such as Ha Giang, Hoa Binh, etc., the number of students registering for the local cluster exam accounts for more than 70%.

In addition, localities such as Yen Bai, Bac Kan, Dien Bien... also have the number of students registering for the exam only for graduation, accounting for about 55%. Similarly, Kon Tum has 35% of candidates taking the exam only for graduation.
Not only in mountainous provinces, Hanoi this year the number of candidates registering for the local cluster exam has also increased significantly. Specifically, this year, out of a total of 66,006 candidates taking the exam, 14,716 candidates took the exam only for graduation. While in 2015, there were about 84,000 candidates taking the exam, the number of candidates taking the exam only for graduation was 11,000.
Mr. Ngo Van Chat, Head of the Examination Management and Quality Assessment Department of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said: "There are many schools with a percentage of students registering for local cluster exams higher than 70%, such as Einstein High School and Mac Dinh Chi High School, 90%."
Vocational training, 70% have jobs immediately
Mr. Cao Van Sam, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Vocational Training, said that the high rate of students choosing to take the graduation exam is a clear trend that shows that reality has guided their careers. Because vocational training costs are low, students are supported with 50% of the cost, and they can get a job right after graduation.

According to statistics from the General Department of Vocational Training, nationwide, 70% of vocational students have jobs right after graduation, including some occupations and schools that guarantee 100% employment. There are hot industries that businesses recruit right from school. "When conducting field surveys in industrial parks, there are occupations that currently earn 100 million VND/month, such as 6G high-level welder," said Mr. Sam.
Mr. Sam said that vocational training has more and more advantages because the job market share for vocational trainees is increasing. Enterprises are increasingly using modern management and production technology, so the indirect labor force only accounts for 5-6%, the rest are trained workers.
Not to mention, with ASEAN integration, those who are trained in vocational training have the opportunity to work for many other countries with attractive salaries of thousands of dollars. Mr. Sam also believes that once they have skills, students have more ways to start a career. For example, if they do not work for businesses, a welder, barber, manicurist, etc. can open their own shop. When they have a fair amount of capital and want to improve their skills, they can easily continue studying at a college or university.
The General Department of Vocational Training added that in recent years, the vocational school system has been invested in by the state, turning each vocational school into a production workshop. Along with the policy of linking with businesses, when studying a trade, students mainly learn practical skills, so when graduating, most of them are proficient in their profession and can easily adapt to work. The sad thing is that although vocational schools have been invested in, in previous years, students still raced to get into university, so many vocational schools had to be "shelved".
Currently, the country has about 190 vocational colleges training 310 occupations, 245 vocational secondary schools training more than 300 occupations. In 2015, the vocational school system enrolled more than 2 million students. Occupations in the fields of tourism, beauty services, information technology, construction, welding... are currently hot jobs. |
