(Baonghean.vn) - This was one of the topics that attracted the attention of many teachers and students at the 2017 College Admissions and Career Guidance Program.The event was organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, Tuoi Tre Newspaper, the Department of Education and Training, and the Nghe An Provincial Youth Union on the morning of March 11th at Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School.

The exam questions are based on the 12th grade curriculum.

This is the fourth year that the college admissions and career guidance program has come to Nghe An. This year, with many changes to the 2017 National High School Graduation Examination, the program has received significant attention and follow-up from teachers and students of high schools in the area.

Many schools in districts like Nghi Loc and Thanh Chuong even arrange transportation to take students to Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School for counseling.

Nguyen Ngoc Anh, a student from Nguyen Duy Trinh High School (Nghi Loc), said: "Currently, the Ministry of Education and Training has only announced the regulations for the National High School Graduation Examination, but not the regulations for university admissions. Therefore, I wanted to come here to meet the teachers at the universities in person to hear about their admission plans and find out which university is suitable for me."

The 2017 college admissions and career guidance program consisted of two parts: general counseling and in-depth counseling. As the first speaker, Dr. Sai Cong Hong, Deputy Director of the Department of Examination and Quality Assurance of Education - Ministry of Education and Training, satisfied thousands of students by briefly introducing the important timelines of the 2017 exam. He particularly emphasized the registration period for the exam and university/college admissions, as well as the time frame for students to revise their applications and preferences.

He also stated that, to avoid errors during the application process, candidates must pay attention to their date of birth and region, as this will affect their scores and future admissions.

Regarding the exam, candidates are also interested in taking the multiple-choice combined subject tests. According to a representative from the Ministry of Education and Training, for the combined subject test, candidates have the right to register for one or both tests. If they register for both, the computer will select the test that meets the requirements and has a higher score for graduation consideration.

Regarding the curriculum, the exam mainly covers knowledge from grade 12. Of this, 60% is fundamental knowledge, and 40% is used for differentiation. This year, the Ministry of Education and Training has also arranged the questions in order from easy to difficult. The questions are selected from a standardized exam question bank and have been tested with grade 12 students in all regions, so candidates don't need to worry too much.

In particular, candidates should not focus solely on difficult questions while neglecting the basics, because in reality, many capable and academically strong candidates do not achieve the best exam results.

Choose a career based on your passion.

Another important issue that 12th-grade students are concerned about is choosing a major, a career, and a university. Thu Trang, a student in class 12C5 at Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School, wondered: "Should I choose a university in the South or the North to increase my chances of admission and make it easier to find a job after graduation?"

In response to this question, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Mai, Head of Student Affairs at the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, stated that surveys conducted in recent years have shown that approximately 60% of students from Nghe An province who apply to universities in Ho Chi Minh City have an average score of 15 points or higher in three subjects.

Therefore, it shows that the abilities of students in President Ho Chi Minh's hometown are quite good. However, to easily find a job after graduation, a university degree is not enough. Answering several other questions related to choosing a field of study for a good career, Dr. Pham Manh Ha - Deputy Head of the Youth Affairs Department of the Youth Academy - succinctly stated: "If you want to be an ordinary person, you can choose anything. But if you want to become an expert and be creative in your profession, then choose a career based on your passion and creativity in the field you are pursuing."

In fact, these orientations are precisely the goals that the Ministry of Education and Training is pursuing in the process of "reform." That is, instead of training based on the capabilities of schools, the current focus is on training to develop human resources for the country's development.

Instead of registering for university applications based on the "highest chance of admission," students are now shifting their focus to "the university that best suits their abilities and strengths." Over the past three years, the Ministry of Education and Training has also separated career guidance from knowledge-based guidance.
