(Baonghean.vn) - More than 2,000 girls are victims of violence and abuse, which is the average number every year in Vietnam. Responding to the International Day of the Girl Child, we call on the community and the whole society to uphold their responsibility in educating and protecting girls.

In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly agreed to take October 11 every year asInternational Day of the Girl Child,to call on the community and the whole society to uphold their responsibility in educating and protecting girls. At the same time, to warn and remind countries to implement gender equality and create the best conditions for them to study for a brighter future.

This group is also facing many risks such as sexual abuse and unwanted pregnancy. Specifically, according to statistics, on average, each year, the country has more than 2,000 girls who are victims of violence and abuse and need support and intervention.
Another serious risk is physical and mental violence, especially in families that still have a strong patriarchal ideology in rural, remote and isolated areas.

In addition, gender-based violence is also manifested in the situation of abortion to select the sex of the fetus, leading to the current serious gender imbalance at birth. According to forecasts, after 20 years, there will be 2.3 - 4 million young men who will have difficulty finding a wife.
In the coming time, to continue to solve the challenges facing the care and education of girls, the participation of all levels, sectors, families, schools and the whole society is needed.
In particular, it is necessary to strengthen the work of protecting, educating and caring for girls. Criticize, condemn and strictly handle acts of law violation, abuse, violence and luring girls into illegal activities.
