Dam Vinh Hung's student won the championship of 'Bolero Idol'

Hellen Thuy won season two of the show with the highest number of votes from the audience.

On the evening of June 15, the final round of Bolero Idol 2017 took place in Ho Chi Minh City. The top 4 contestants included Trieu Quan (Le Quyen's team), Phuong Lien (Ngoc Son's team), Hellen Thuy (Dam Vinh Hung's team) and Ngoc Son (Quang Le's team). They performed solo and duet with their coach.

With the highest number of votes from the audience (32.94%), Hellen Thuy was named the champion. Upon hearing the result, Dam Vinh Hung jumped up and ran from the wings to hug his student. "I am extremely happy and proud of Hellen Thuy's efforts," he said.

In the final night, Hellen Thuy conquered the coaches and the audience with her gentle, emotional voice through the song "Who suffers for who". Dam Vinh Hung sat on the "hot seat" and sang along with his student. Ngoc Son commented that the contestant sang low notes well - a weakness she had in previous rounds.

In addition to her solo performance, she and her coach surprised everyone by performing the song "Bolero Improvisation". This is the first time the song, which includes 62 famous Bolero songs, has been introduced by Mr. Dam and his students on the show.

Bolero Improvisation is the song that Dam Vinh Hung asked musician Minh Vy to compose for his upcoming live show. However, the singer from Quang Nam used it to help his student shine in the final competition night.

Before that, Mr. Dam had spent time practicing with his students. When he received a message from the coach about the practice schedule for the duet, Hellen Thuy immediately booked a flight from Hanoi to Saigon. She spent time at the studio from 4pm to 6am the next day to ensure her performance was perfect.

Before the final night, Dam Vinh Hung encouraged and frankly pointed out Hellen Thuy's weaknesses. He advised his student to stop going online to avoid affecting her competitive spirit. He also called on fans to support his "pet" by sending text messages to vote via the hotline.

"Hellen Thuy has a beautiful, solid voice, with the right vibrato to my liking. Thuy is a contestant with a fairly good foundation, trained at the Military University of Culture and Arts, so I am quite confident in this student. The things I teach, I only need to say once and Thuy will be able to do them right away. My student's personality is gentle, obedient and hard-working, just like the nature of the people of the Central region. In the team, Thuy always respects her elders, gives way to her juniors, and knows how to take care of everyone," Dam Vinh Hung shared.
