UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed hope that these terrorist attacks will not destroy the determination of the Somali people to build a peaceful and stable country.

The UN Security Council statement came a day after gunmen and suicide bombers attacked a court complex in the capital Mogadishu, killing at least 35 people. The Shebab terrorist group, which has ties to the international terrorist network Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack.

On the same day, the United Nations Security Council adopted a presidential statement on the conflict in Africa, calling on all parties to make efforts to thoroughly resolve the root causes of the conflict and support the international community's efforts to prevent clashes and build peace on the Black Continent.

In the statement, Rwanda - the current President of the Security Council - stressed that the body is aware of the importance of building a comprehensive strategy to prevent armed conflicts, encouraging countries to seek measures to thoroughly resolve the root causes of conflicts, towards a lasting peace. The statement affirmed the Security Council's supporting role for countries in the mission of preventing conflicts from breaking out and escalating./.
