Conference overview |
The report at the Conference stated: Literary and artistic journalism is an important part of revolutionary journalism. The country currently has over 80 literary and artistic press agencies under the Vietnam Union of Literary and Artistic Associations, provincial and municipal literary and artistic associations under the Central Government, and literary and artistic press of a number of ministries and branches. In 63 provinces and cities across the country, in addition to literary and artistic press publications of local literary and artistic associations, Party newspapers and radio and television programs have also developed specialized pages, columns, and topics on literature and art with considerable time.

The press is affecting all aspects of life, in which people are receiving literature and arts mainly through the press. The literary press in particular, by always sticking to its orientation and serving its political tasks well, has contributed to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. By introducing new works to the public, the literary press is contributing to nurturing and training literary and artistic talents, especially young artists; contributing to preserving the purity and enriching the Vietnamese language and the languages of Vietnam's ethnic minorities; the exchange programs and discussions on culture and literature of newspapers and radio stations have updated, reflected the current situation, praised typical examples and provided lessons on building new cultural content at the grassroots level... in a timely and vivid manner.
The report also points out the difficulties and shortcomings of current literary and artistic journalism activities, especially local specialized magazines that have not kept up with the trend and have not met the needs of readers. A few newspapers have indulged in negative social information, unverified and arbitrary information, etc., creating negative social effects. Content has not received equal attention in terms of both creative writing and critical theory. Operating budget is limited, circulation is low. The human resources of literary and artistic journalism are still lacking and not highly skilled.
Many cultural press agencies, cultural pages of newspapers belonging to socio-political organizations and ministries have not invested properly to create a unique identity for their publications and pages. Cultural and artistic programs broadcast by radio and television stations still contain offensive content, not in line with the fine arts and cultural traditions of the nation. The cultural and artistic sections of many online newspapers still lack direction, leading to the situation of mainly exploiting the private lives of actors, singers, celebrities, etc.
