The conference evaluated the results of coordination in border leadership work between Nghe An Provincial Party Committee and Nghe An Border Guard Party Committee in the past time and continued to coordinate in leading border work in the new situation.

In the past time, Nghe An Provincial Party Committee and the Border Guard Party Committee have regularly disseminated the Party's Resolutions and Directives on border protection tasks, building a strong national defense and people's security. They have propagated and mobilized 263 households/1,500 people to abandon the intention of illegal migration to Laos, prevented and expelled 54 subjects with the intention of illegally proselytizing in the border area. In particular, the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Border Guard Command have focused on directing forces to well implement the task of participating in the construction of the Project to renovate and thicken the system of national border markers on the Vietnam-Laos line (up to now, 101/116 marker locations have been surveyed, 77/116 markers have been completed). Nghe An Provincial Party Committee and the Border Guard Party Committee have coordinated to direct the Provincial Border Guard, all levels and local sectors to propagate and mobilize people in border and coastal areas to grasp and well implement the Party's policies and the State's laws.

Speaking at the Conference, Lieutenant General Vo Trong Viet, Commander of the Border Guard, highly appreciated the results achieved in coordinating the leadership of the province's border work, and suggested a number of key tasks to improve the effectiveness of border work in the coming time. These are: Taking care of hunger eradication and poverty reduction in border areas, further linking socio-economic development with strengthening national defense and security; Strengthening traditional relations with provinces sharing the border of Laos to build a model border of peace and friendship; Strengthening the work of twinning, accepting head, and twinning between villages bordering Laos; Strengthening the effectiveness of combating illegal migration, replanting opium, and recovering weapons and explosives; Training cadres of communes and villages and taking care of the health of ethnic minorities in remote, isolated and disadvantaged areas...
