International Conference on the East Sea introduces Hoang Sa and Truong Sa
The Institute of Oceanography believes that currently, marine research topics in our country are quite scattered and lack systematicity.
On September 12, in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, the Institute of Oceanography, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology organized the 2012 East Sea International Conference with the participation of nearly 200 scientists from 14 countries.
More than 150 reports and scientific research topics presented at the Conference reviewed the 90-year journey of the Institute of Oceanography operating in Vietnam's sea and neighboring areas. Delegates focused on discussing and proposing orientations for marine research development and cooperation programs between Vietnam and the Institute of Oceanography.
According to the assessment of the Institute of Oceanography, currently, marine research topics in our country are quite scattered and lack systematicity. Therefore, it is necessary to have a synchronous marine research strategy and specific goals to promote the potential of a country with strengths in the sea. Also at this Conference, the Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography introduced to international scientists the scientific research achievements on the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa sea areas of generations of scientists during 90 years of formation and development.
Dr. Vo Si Tuan, Deputy Director of the Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography, shared: “International friends will have a systematic picture of what the Institute of Oceanography has done, about Truong Sa, Hoang Sa, and what we have achieved. This is an opportunity that international scientists do not easily have to have complete information about our research in Truong Sa, Hoang Sa since the 20s and 30s. These are very good initial results for planning policies on exploiting marine resources.”/.
