Training conference on climate change and green growth
(Baonghean.vn) - This morning (December 27), in Vinh city, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the People's Committee of Nghe An province to organize the opening of a training conference on climate change and green growth.
Attending the training course were Mr. Mark Fenn - Director of Forest and Delta Project in Vietnam (Wrock International); representatives of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Public Administration; Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment; National Hydrometeorology Center, Forest Project.
On the provincial side, there were comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; comrades in the Provincial Party Standing Committee; comrades at the head level of provincial departments, branches and sectors.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong said that according to research, Vietnam is one of the countries that will be greatly affected by climate change and Nghe An is one of the five most severely affected provinces. Organizing a conference for provincial-level officials is a very meaningful event for the province; this is not only a conference on climate change response from the perspective of international experts but also a step demonstrating Nghe An's determination in building and implementing a program to respond to natural disasters and climate change, a hot global issue, and at the same time in line with the national strategy on green growth approved by the Prime Minister. At the training conference, it is hoped that trainees will discuss issues surrounding climate change and green growth in line with the province's socio-economic development strategy, thereby making decisions and solutions to respond strategically to climate change in the areas that the unit manages and operates.

At the training course, through the communication of experts from the Forest and Delta Project in Vietnam, the trainees clearly saw the impacts of climate change with the manifestations of extreme weather phenomena increasingly evident in Vietnam in general and Nghe An in particular. Especially clearly saw the problem facing Nghe An province - a province with the largest area in the country, with large forest reserves, a river system, especially the Ca River with large water reserves.

However, in reality, during the rainy season, all rainwater flows into the sea, and in the summer, hydroelectric projects store water, causing drought in the downstream areas. Meanwhile, the dam system is under construction, and a large number of dams that have been built for decades have degraded, raising alarms about dam safety. Then, polluted water sources pose a future problem, raising the issue of groundwater management. Climate change will also affect all sectors of industry, trade, health, agriculture...

Through the training conference, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Public Administration; Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment; National Center for Hydrometeorology provided trainees with basic issues on climate change, and at the same time oriented and called for solutions to adapt and respond to climate change, thereby integrating climate change into the general socio-economic plans of each and the development plans and planning of each sector and field to develop a green and sustainable economy.

After this training conference, the agencies will organize 2 training courses, 1 2-day course for deputy heads of provincial departments, branches and sectors; 1 3-day course for technical and specialist staff to provide in-depth knowledge to advise, plan adaptation and response to climate change in each specific field and sector in the 5-year development plan for 2016 - 2020.
