Conference to review state management of religion

Also attending were representatives of provincial departments, branches and sectors.
In Nghe An, there are currently two main religions: Catholicism with about 258,000 followers, 118 dignitaries and Buddhism with more than 30,000 monks, nuns and priests. In 2013, implementing the consistent policy of our Party and State of respecting freedom of religious belief within the framework of the law, all levels and sectors have paid attention to promptly resolving issues in accordance with legal policies and in accordance with the reality of legitimate religious needs.
The work of consolidating the grassroots political system in religious areas and consolidating the organization and apparatus for religious work has received more attention, especially the implementation of support policies for key cadres with religion according to the regulations of the Provincial Party Committee; training and fostering on legal policies and professional religious work; focusing on objectively and legally resolving cases of violations of land laws; separating and establishing parishes, illegally proselytizing... contributing to maintaining stability in religious areas to serve socio-economic development. However, the grassroots political system in some religious areas is still weak, allowing some illegal religious activities to occur; the cadres doing state management of religion at all levels and sectors have limited capacity and experience, and have not yet been close to the grassroots...

Concluding the conference, comrade Thai Van Hang requested all levels and sectors to continue to effectively carry out the propaganda and dissemination of the Party and State's policies and laws on religion; promptly and properly resolve legitimate and legal religious needs and beliefs; petitions and complaints in accordance with legal policies; strengthen the situation to detect and prevent illegal religious activities, taking advantage of religion to oppose the regime, proactively resolve cases from the grassroots level, and prevent hot spots from occurring; actively coordinate with religious dignitaries and officials in the spirit of respect, cooperation, and mobilize religious followers to comply with the law in religious activities, stand side by side with the nation, and fulfill their responsibilities and obligations as citizens.

On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 2 groups and 10 individuals for their outstanding achievements in religious work in 2011 and 3 groups and 6 individuals for their outstanding achievements in propaganda work. There were 2 groups and 3 individuals awarded certificates of merit by the Head of the Government's Committee for Religious Affairs.
