Conference on press work deployment in 2012

(Baonghean.vn) Today, March 30, 2012, in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, the Central Propaganda Department held a national press conference to deploy press work in 2012, with the participation of leaders of Party committees, the Propaganda Department, the Department of Information and Communications, and leaders of central and local press agencies nationwide.(*)

Attending the Conference were comrades: Le Hong Anh - Member of the Politburo, Standing member of the Secretariat; Dinh The Huynh - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Nguyen Bac Son - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Minister of Information and Communications. Chairing the Conference were comrades: Thuan Huu - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Nguyen The Ky - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department and Do Quy Doan - Deputy Minister of Information and Communications.

Assessing the results of press activities in 2011, comrade Do Quy Doan affirmed: Last year, the press nationwide correctly implemented the leadership, direction and information orientation of the Party and State; reported quickly, fully and comprehensively on all developments of political, economic, cultural and social life at home and abroad; the press has truly been a trusted forum for the people. In particular, recently, the press has focused on widely propagating the Resolution of the 4th Central Committee (11th Tenure) of the Party, contributing to creating a strong spread of the spirit of Resolution, bringing Resolution into life.

However, in the context of rapid development of online newspapers, many electronic information sites do not operate in accordance with their purposes and principles, are not suitable for the interests of the people and the country, many newspapers report false information, are not in accordance with Vietnamese customs and traditions, violate the Press Law, and have negatively impacted public opinion... This situation poses requirements for press management agencies, the responsibility of heads of press agencies and journalistic ethics, as well as requires a strict press management mechanism, more suitable to the requirements of rapid development of press information in the new situation, especially with sensitive information and issues that are of public concern.

At the conference, delegates focused on discussing important issues surrounding the core tasks of the press in 2012, which are: Focusing on effectively propagating and bringing Resolutions into life, especially Resolution 4 of the Central Committee (11th Term) associated with studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example; propagating to curb inflation, stabilize the macro-economy, ensure social security; continuing to encourage and promote the New Rural Development Program; propagating important events of the country; propagating on protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland; preventing epidemics and natural disasters; restructuring the economy; renewing the growth model, the Movement to build a cultural life; the Campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods"; the Vietnam - Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2012...

The tasks set for press agencies in 2012 are to focus on overcoming shortcomings and weaknesses, strengthening the direction and management of the press, improving the quality of press conferences, managing information content well, and disciplining information in press conferences; improving the professionalism and ethics of journalists for reporters; innovating the form of providing information to the press, ensuring that information is always timely, accurate and proactive. The press needs to be careful, accurate, and ensure orientation when reporting on issues of sovereignty disputes over seas and islands, conflicts, disputes, and clashes between a number of countries and territories, climate change, etc., and other sensitive issues.

At the conference, in addition to the propaganda orientation of the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Information and Communications, delegates also listened to the speech of Comrade Le Hong Anh - Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat on press activities. Thereby, it helps press management agencies and press agencies grasp the direction of information and propaganda, as well as enhance the role and responsibility in press activities in general, so that the press can contribute more and more effectively to socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security and performing well foreign affairs in the integration trend of the country./.
