National online conference summarizing the work of the elderly in 2012

At Nghe An, comrade Bui Nguyen Lan - Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs chaired with the participation of leaders of relevant departments, branches and sectors.

According to the report of the National Committee on the Elderly in VietnamMaleCurrently, our country has about 8.65 million elderly people (accounting for 9.8% of the population). Currently, the whole country has nearly 3 million elderly people with health insurance cards; 33 provinces and cities have Geriatric departments serving elderly health care; 49% of elderly people receive health counseling. Implementing the Law on Elderly on material care and social protection for the elderly, up to now, the whole country has nearly 1,430,000 elderly people receiving monthly social allowances; the "Golden Age Dream" program of the Central Association of the Elderly in Vietnam has mobilized and received over 1,715 billion VND from organizations and individuals with 2,492 elderly people in difficult circumstances receiving benefits; eliminating 72,970 temporary houses for poor elderly people.

The movement “Elderly people are shining examples” with specific and practical contents has promoted the role of the elderly in all fields. According to preliminary statistics, the whole country has 342,428 elderly people participating in the work of the Party, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations; the elderly in the whole country have contributed 544,116 billion VND, donated over 2 million m²land and support 435,990 working days to contribute to the construction of new rural areas.

In Nghe An province, the work of caring for and promoting the role of the elderly has been paid attention to, promoted and achieved many remarkable results. In 2012, the whole province had 170,622 elderly people granted health insurance cards and supported free medical examination; 201,000 elderly people received medical examinations and health consultations; 70,334 elderly people received social allowances in the community; 41,130 elderly people of age had their longevity celebrations and birthday wishes celebrated; 6,434 temporary houses were abolished for poor elderly people. Implementing the campaign "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh", in 2012, the whole province had 179,000 people participating in planting 2 million trees. The whole province had 4,055 elderly people participating in party and government work; 12,036 elderly people were good at economics...
