Online conference summarizing the implementation of the 2000 Law on Marriage and Family
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of April 16, the Ministry of Justice held a national online conference to summarize the implementation of the 2000 Law on Marriage and Family.
Attending the conference were comrades: Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Member of the Politburo, Deputy Prime Minister; Ha Hung Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Justice; representatives of the People's Procuracy, the Supreme People's Court, a number of central ministries and branches. The Nghe An bridge was chaired by comrade Thai Van Hang - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
The Ministry of Justice's assessment after 13 years of implementing the Law on Marriage and Family affirmed: The Law on Marriage and Family has had a positive impact on promoting the role of the family in social life, preserving and promoting the traditions, customs and good practices of the Vietnamese people; contributing to building, perfecting and protecting the progressive marriage and family regime, building legal standards for behavior, protecting the rights and legitimate interests of family members, inheriting and promoting the good ethical traditions of the Vietnamese family.
Online conference at Nghe An bridgehead
In order to meet the objective requirements of the Vietnamese marriage and family practice, the revised Law on Marriage and Family will focus on 10 major contents, including many shortcomings and many issues arising in practice but not yet included in the 2000 Law on Marriage and Family such as: surrogacy, marriage age, same-sex marriage, divorce, marriage with foreign elements...
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc agreed with the draft report on objectives, viewpoints and some major orientations in the law-making process to amend and supplement a number of articles of the 2000 Law on Marriage and Family drafted by the Ministry of Justice. He also pointed out 5 orientations that need to be focused on for discussion. In particular, it is necessary to clearly identify the objectives and major viewpoints in the law-making process; It is necessary to review previous documents and selectively absorb the laws on marriage and family of other countries, especially those with progressive cultures and close to Vietnam; The settlement of relationships needs to be based on the characteristics of the law on marriage and family and other laws in the direction of respecting human rights; It is necessary to create a clear legal corridor, consistent with the customs and practices of all ethnic groups in Vietnam; The law-making process needs to start from the issue of respecting human rights and civil rights; Central and local ministries, branches and localities are requested to promote their responsibilities and closely coordinate with the Ministry of Justice to amend laws of the highest quality, meeting the country's development requirements and the most basic human rights.
