Media conference on integrated coastal zone management

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of August 19, in Vinh city, the Department of Sea and Island Exploitation Management, the General Department of Sea and Islands coordinated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to organize a communication conference on integrated coastal zone management (IZM) for the coastal strip of the North Central and Central Coast regions for departments, branches, districts, cities, and towns with islands; port authorities doing management work and related to the management of islands in Nghe An province.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, comrade Hoang Duy Dong - Deputy Director of the Department of Sea and Island Exploitation Management, affirmed: QLTHDB is a system of resource and environmental management following a comprehensive approach to the planning process to solve complex problems in the coastal zone, thereby overcoming existing problems, and at the same time solving single-sector and territorial inconsistencies in the use of space and resources in the coastal zone between sectors, agencies, and communities in the exploitation and use of marine and island resources.

On October 9, 2007, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 158/QD-TTg approving the Coastal Management Program of the North Central and Central Coast regions until 2010 and orientation to 2020. The general objective of this program is to enhance the capacity to manage, protect, use and exploit marine resources and environment for sustainable development in the provinces and cities of the North Central and Central Coast regions through Coastal Management. To ensure the successful implementation of the set objectives, each organization and individual needs to raise awareness and change behavior for sustainable development. To do so, communication plays a very important role, requiring each level, each sector, each organization to pay attention.

Comrade Hoang Duy Dong delivered the opening speech at the conference.

At the conference, delegates were exposed to the most basic concepts of knowledge as well as the main contents and action programs in the management of coastal areas, in which attention should be paid to ensuring the organization and apparatus for implementing coastal areas from the central to local levels; training human resources and raising public awareness in coastal areas; building a comprehensive database to serve coastal areas management work... Delegates were also able to grasp some information about strategies, action plans and technical guidelines on coastal areas management that have been deployed in Vietnam; listening to the situation in the East Sea and the comments of experts related to marine and island resources and environment and sustainable development. At the same time, they were provided with requirements, goals and tasks set for each locality in coastal areas management to develop the economy - society, ensure people's lives in a sustainable manner, meet the general coastal areas management requirements for the whole region, the whole country, territory and the world...
