Workshop on Journalism Ethics in Exploiting and Processing Information Sources

(Baonghean.vn) -As part of the annual work program of the Emulation Cluster of the Local Journalists Association, on the morning of January 10, in Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province, the Emulation Cluster of the Journalists Association of the North Central provinces held a workshop.“The Association of Journalists of the North Central provinces with the building of journalistic ethics in the style of Ho Chi Minh” and Journalistic ethics in exploiting and processing information sources" and summarize the emulation work in 2012, deploy the tasks in 2013.

Overview of the Workshop

The North Central Journalists Association emulation cluster includes 6 provinces: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue. At the workshop, the delegates discussed urgent issues related to journalistic ethics in exploiting and processing information sources. 16 papers participated, each paper reflected a different perspective but all focused on highlighting the theme of the workshop. Ha Tinh Journalists Association presented the content: "Journalistic ethics - The key is the conscience and responsibility of journalists", Nghe An Journalists Association presented the content: "Searching and reflecting the truth according to objective reality is the professional conscience of journalists", Thanh Hoa Journalists Association presented the content: "Ho Chi Minh - Teacher of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism", Quang Binh Journalists Association presented the content: "Quang Binh journalism with the building of journalistic ethics in the style of Ho Chi Minh". The Quang Tri Journalists Association presented a discussion with the content: "Reporting accurate and objective news is the ethics of journalists", the Thua Thien Hue Journalists Association presented a discussion with the content: "Before becoming a good journalist, be a good citizen". In addition, there were many presentations by leaders of press agencies of Quang Binh, Nghe An, Quang Tri provinces... all focusing on the given topic.

Journalists Association of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh provinces signed the emulation agreement of the North Central cluster in 2013.

The workshop also mentioned the issue of a small number of members and journalists who have not yet properly implemented the 9 regulations on professional ethics of Vietnamese journalists. A small number still take advantage of their profession to harass the base, gain personal benefits, fabricate false information, and cause difficulties for the base. Although the number of such journalists is not large, their actions have affected the reputation of journalists in general.

Summarizing the emulation and reward work in 2012, the Emulation Cluster unanimously proposed that the Vietnam Journalists Association consider and award the Prime Minister's emulation flag to the Ha Tinh Journalists Association, and that the Vietnam Journalists Association consider and award the emulation flag to the two Journalists Associations: Quang Binh and Quang Tri, and award certificates of merit to the Journalists Associations: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Thua Thien Hue.
