Field workshop on rice variety M-1 ND in Quynh Luu

(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of August 21, at Quynh Doi commune, Quynh Luu, the Plant Protection Station, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district organized a field workshop to introduce the new rice variety M-1ND produced by Cuong Tan Seed Company Limited.

Attending the workshop were leaders of the District People's Committee, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu District, leaders of Cuong Tan Seed Company Limited and the chairmen and heads of cooperatives of 30 rice-growing communes in Quynh Luu District, and representatives of rice-producing households in Quynh Doi Commune.

Overview of the workshop

M-1 ND rice variety is a promising purebred rice variety created by Engineer Dang Duc Ninh by the method of individual selection from the hybrid combination IR - 19794 and RC - 6 (imported). The variety has its own potential for winter-spring crop cultivation suitable for climate change and was demonstrated in 3 communes of Quynh Doi, Quynh Hong, An Hoa with a scale of 2 - 3ha/commune. Biological characteristics of M1 - ND variety have a growth period equivalent to Q5 variety (about 4-5 days longer than Khang Dan 18). Northern spring crop: 130 - 135 days, summer-autumn: 105 - 110 days. Advantages of M1 rice variety are wide adaptability and tolerance to intensive cultivation, very strong and concentrated tillering, strong plant resistance to lodging, resistant to leaf blight, good resistance to planthoppers; has large and long panicles, high percentage of solid grains, can reach an average yield of 7 - 7.5 tons/ha. The quality of the rice is delicious, rich in flavor, with amylose content of 16.5-17% and protein of 8-8.5%. The disadvantage is that it is susceptible to dry blast and light brown spot. Through testing in 3 communes, it is initially shown that the M1 rice variety is suitable for summer-autumn crop production in Nghe An area.

With the above outstanding advantages, currently, many localities attending the workshop have proposed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to allow units to expand production to improve productivity and economic efficiency. On the side of the seed supplier, the representative of Cuong Tan Seed Company committed to providing sufficient, timely, and quality-assured rice varieties, while at the same time having policies to encourage producers to quickly put quality rice varieties into production.
