Field workshop on model of prevention and control of sugarcane weed disease

(Baonghean) -The Plant Protection Department, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has just coordinated with the People's Committee of Nghia Dan district to organize a field workshop on the model "Application of synchronous solutions to manage sugarcane weed shoot disease".

Nghia Dan and Tan Ky and Quy Hop districts were chosen as the model implementation sites from March 2012 to March 2013, with training for 300 farmers. In Nghia Dan district, after organizing 4 training courses, Nghe An NAT&L Sugar Factory supported 500 thousand VND/ha to handle the disease source. The results showed that through the application of synchronous solutions to manage sugarcane weed shoot disease, the model sugarcane field reduced the disease from 10% to 7%, while the control field increased from 10% to 18%. The productivity of the model field is expected to be more than 79 tons/ha, while the control field only has 55.7 tons/ha. Specifically, the results of the model implementation in Nghia Lien commune showed that the disease rate in the field was reduced by 13% compared to the control field, yielded 22.5 tons/ha higher than the control and had a higher economic efficiency than the control by 17,001,000 VND/ha.

As of November 2012, the entire province had 4,589 hectares of sugarcane infected with grass shoot disease, the disease situation is still very complicated, the model "Application of synchronous solutions to manage grass shoot disease on sugarcane" was highly appreciated by the workshop and emphasized that this is a model for visiting and learning, equipping farmers with high-yield sugarcane intensive cultivation techniques, and methods of managing grass shoot disease in an integrated manner, aiming to limit the harmful effects of the disease to increase economic efficiency for sugarcane growers.
