Scientific Workshop "Helping children quickly escape malnutrition and stunting"

On the morning of July 4, 2015, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Pediatric Association in collaboration with Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) organized a scientific seminar with the theme "Helping children quickly escape from malnutrition and stunting".

Professor - Doctor Nguyen Cong Khanh, President of Vietnam Pediatric Association shared at the conference

At the conference, Professor - Doctor Nguyen Cong Khanh said: The rate of stunted malnutrition in Vietnam accounts for about 25% of children under 5 years old. The main cause of this situation is that the children's daily diet lacks too many micronutrients. The World Health Organization ranks Vietnam in the list of 19 countries with severe vitamin A deficiency with a rate of 37.5% in children under 5 years old. The latest survey by the National Institute of Nutrition also shows that 24% of children are anemic, 41.5% are zinc deficient, leading to prolonged digestive disorders, respiratory infections and rickets. In addition, stunted malnutrition is also affected by parasitic infections, birth defects as well as lack of knowledge about raising children.

The workshop attracted nearly 500 mothers to listen to advice from nutrition experts.

According to Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, to escape from malnutrition, children also need to eat foods rich in energy and nutrients to promptly supplement the missing micronutrients, using nutritional products that are easy to absorb and digest will help increase resistance. In addition, it is indispensable to supplement micronutrients to support brain development.
