Workshop on Japonica rice variety planted in spring in Que Phong

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 21, the People's Committee of Que Phong district coordinated with the Vietnam Agricultural Genetics Institute to organize a workshop on the project to produce high-quality Japonica rice varieties for the 2015 spring crop.

Overview of the workshop.

The Japonica rice variety was introduced for experimental planting by the People's Committee of Que Phong district in collaboration with the Vietnam Agricultural Genetics Institute since the spring crop of 2010. After 4 years of testing and production, the Japonica rice variety has affirmed its ability to withstand cold, resist pests and diseases well, can produce both crops in a year, has delicious rice quality, high yield, and is highly appreciated by local people and authorities in the area.

Japonica rice variety for good product

In order to soon develop Japonica rice into a typical regional commodity, the District People's Committee has approved the project "Producing high-quality specialty rice from production to consumption in Que Phong district in the period of 2014 - 2016". Through 2 production seasons, the 2014 summer-autumn crop and the 2015 spring crop in 3 communes: Tien Phong, Muong Noc and Chau Kim with a total area of ​​300 hectares, the average yield reached 55 quintals/ha, the output was 1,650 tons, with a purchase price of 10,000 VND/kg of rice.

At the workshop, many delegates affirmed: This is a rice variety suitable for the local climate and farming conditions, the rice quality is delicious, high yield; it can expand the area throughout the district and build a brand of goods with regional specialties.

However, there are still difficulties and challenges in the production process such as complicated weather conditions, backward awareness and farming practices of the people, unstable product consumption market, etc., so it is necessary to have the attention and support of all levels and sectors to soon successfully build the Que Phong high-quality rice brand, thereby contributing to sustainable poverty reduction./.
