Today (June 9), the National Election Council held a press conference to announce the election results of the 14th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 term.

Chief of Office of the National Election Council Nguyen Hanh Phuc said: more than 67 million voters went to vote, reaching a rate of 99.35%.

The election results were 496 National Assembly deputies (4 missing); 3,908 provincial People's Council deputies (8 missing); 25,179 district People's Council deputies (120 missing); 291,273 commune People's Council deputies (6,026 missing).

The 14th National Assembly has 86 ethnic minority delegates; 133 female delegates; 71 delegates under 40 years old; 317 delegates participating in the National Assembly for the first time; 2 self-nominated candidates were elected...

In particular, the 14th National Assembly holds a record for the percentage of National Assembly deputies who are Party members at 95.8% (with only 21 non-Party members), and also holds a record for the number of Central Party Committee members elected at nearly 100 (including all 19 Politburo members).

The draft report of the National Election Council affirms: The success of the election is of utmost importance in implementing the resolution of the 12th National Party Congress.

At the same time, the draft report also pointed out the limitations of the election: not electing enough delegates as expected; the elimination of some self-nominated candidates for National Assembly delegates who were trusted by voters in their place of residence and work caused negative public opinion; there is still a situation of chasing achievements to achieve high voter turnout, so voting on behalf of others still occurs...
