Today's trial of loggers who "murdered" 3 Sa mu trees
(Baonghean.vn) - Today, October 27, at the headquarters of the People's Committee of Thong Thu commune, the People's Court of Que Phong district opened a mobile court to try the first instance case of illegal loggers "murdering" 3 Sa mu trees.
The defendants brought to trial include: Luong Van Tam (born in 1975), Vi Van Hoai (born in 1979), Vi Van Binh (born in 1994), all residing in Muong Phu village, Thong Thu commune; and Cao Minh Quyet (born in 1986), residing in Hamlet 3, Muong Ham, Chau Cuong commune, Quy Hop district.

The above 4 defendants were prosecuted for the crime of "Violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection" as prescribed in Article 175 of the Penal Code.

As reported by Nghe An Newspaper, the above defendants were discovered and caught red-handed by the joint patrol team of Hanh Dich Border Guard Station, the Police and the Hanh Dich Commune Team, and the Management Board of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve in coordination on the Vietnam-Laos border patrol at 1:00 p.m. on July 3, 2015, while illegally exploiting Sa mu dau wood at Block 11, Sub-area 59, in the core area of the special-use forest of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve.
On the morning of October 27, Que Phong District People's Court simultaneously tried two cases: property theft and illegal forest exploitation.
