More than 1,000 overseas Vietnamese attend the 2012 Homeland Spring Festival

On the evening of January 15 (December 22), at Ba Dinh Square, the Spring Homeland program took place. This is an annual activity organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese - Ministry of Foreign Affairs to welcome children living far from the Fatherland back to their homeland to celebrate spring with their families and country.

On the evening of January 15 (December 22), at Ba Dinh Square, the Spring Homeland program took place. This is an annual activity organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese - Ministry of Foreign Affairs to welcome children living far from the Fatherland back to their homeland to celebrate spring with their families and country.

The event was attended by President Truong Tan Sang, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Huynh Dam, and many leaders of ministries, Hanoi City, and international organizations. More than 1,000 overseas Vietnamese attended the festival.

Overseas Vietnamese delegations from various countries returned to their homeland on the occasion of Tet and visited President Ho Chi Minh's workplace.

This year, Hometown Spring was held at Ba Dinh Square, the heart of the whole country, with the hope that in the new year of Nham Thin, the country will continue to overcome difficulties and challenges and develop prosperously.

In the warm atmosphere of homeland love, President Truong Tan Sang warmly welcomed our compatriots from all over the world to return to their homeland to celebrate the traditional national New Year.

The President emphasized that in 2011, implementing the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress, our country overcame many difficulties and challenges and continued to gain important achievements in all aspects. These achievements stemmed from the correct renovation policy over the past 25 years, from the determination and unceasing efforts of our people, from the strength of the great national unity bloc, including the contributions of our compatriots abroad.

The President believes that in 2012, with new opportunities and not small challenges, we, with the courage, intelligence and tradition of "children of the Dragon and Fairy" through thousands of years of history of building and defending the country, with the determination to unite, join forces, and strive of the people of the whole country and our compatriots abroad, our Fatherland will certainly overcome all challenges, constantly rise to become a rich and powerful nation, with an increasingly high position in the international arena.

The Party, State and people always affirm that overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community, always wishing and doing their utmost to support compatriots to unite, help each other stabilize their lives, develop the economy, preserve national cultural identity, integrate into the community in the country of residence, be a bridge to develop friendly and cooperative relations between our people and people of other countries in the world and always look towards the homeland.

According to unofficial statistics, in 2011, over 300,000 overseas Vietnamese returned to visit the country and the amount of remittances reached over 9 billion USD, a record high, equivalent to nearly 1/10 of Vietnam's GDP and making Vietnam one of the 10 countries receiving the most remittances in 2011. In addition, many charitable and humanitarian activities towards the homeland continue to be maintained in many different forms, notably overseas Vietnamese continuing to support the army and people of Truong Sa island district, donating to victims of Agent Orange, children with congenital heart disease and local education promotion funds...

On the afternoon of January 15, within the framework of the Spring Homeland 2012 program, President Truong Tan Sang and representatives of overseas Vietnamese visited the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace to offer incense in memory of Uncle Ho. At the H67 house, where Uncle Ho breathed his last, President Truong Tan Sang and overseas Vietnamese offered incense in memory of him and were moved and moved when looking at each of his mementos. After that, President Truong Tan Sang and overseas Vietnamese released fish into Uncle Ho's fish pond in the Presidential Palace Relic Site according to our nation's custom on the occasion of Ong Cong, Ong Tao festival (December 23).
