More than 1,600 works participate in the Photo - Film Festival about the ASEAN Community

More than 1,600 photos and documentary films from 7 countries were sent to the 2015 Photo and Documentary Film Festival on ethnic groups in the ASEAN community in Vietnam.

This morning, November 9, 2015, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan, Head of the Steering Committee of the 2015 Photo and Documentary Film Festival on ethnic groups in the ASEAN community in Vietnam, chaired the meeting of the Jury of this Festival.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Son, Director of the Center for International Journalism and Media Cooperation, Ministry of Information and Communications, representative of the Organizing Committee said: "This festival has attracted the participation of authors from 7 countries including: Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines and Vietnam. Among them are many authors from mountainous, island and difficult areas of Vietnam as well as some countries in the ASEAN community.

By November 6, 2015, the Organizing Committee had received 1,489 photographic entries, including 1,029 by Vietnamese authors and 480 by foreign authors; and 112 reportage-documentary films, including 88 by Vietnamese authors and 24 by foreign authors. The number of photographic entries this time is 3.5 times higher than the 2010 Festival (453 entries) and about 3 times higher than the 2013 Festival (536 entries).

According to Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan, this Festival is the continuation of the Photo and Documentary Film Festival on countries and people in the ASEAN community in Vietnam in 2010, and the Photo and Documentary Film Festival on environmental protection and climate change in the ASEAN community in Vietnam in 2013.

"In December 2015, the ASEAN Community was officially formed with three main pillars: Politics, Security - Economy - Culture, Society. Vietnam plays a very active role in promoting its proactive role in building the ASEAN Community. This Photo and Documentary Film Festival is one of the activities to propagate, promote and encourage the peoples in the ASEAN community towards a peaceful, stable, connected and people-oriented ASEAN. Promoting photo works, documentaries and films is one of the activities contributing to building the cultural and social pillars of ASEAN."

The preliminary round will take place from November 9 to 14, 2015. The Film Jury is headed by Mr. Nguyen Chi Tan, former Deputy General Director of Ho Chi Minh City Television. The Photo Jury is headed by journalist and photographer Nguyen Thang, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Pictorial Newspaper, Vietnam News Agency.

The Final Round will take place from December 1 to 7. The Jury for the Director's Film category is headed by Meritorious Artist Chu Hoa, Director of the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution, Ministry of Information and Communications. The Jury for the Photo category is headed by photographer and painter Vi Kien Thanh, Director of the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Notably, the Jury for the Final Round also includes two international judges from Japan, including director Tatsuya Mori and photographer Mikio Hasui.

The closing ceremony and award ceremony of the 2015 Photo and Documentary Film Festival on ethnic groups in the ASEAN community in Vietnam will be held in Hanoi in December 2015.

The works participating in the Festival are works reflecting the life, work and production, customs, cultural traditions, costumes of ethnic groups, especially ethnic minorities; Introducing outstanding achievements of individuals, agencies and organizations of each country in the ASEAN community in the work of preserving, maintaining and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups; Study movements, solidarity, environmental protection, national security and defense; Achievements in economic development, movements to build new cultural life of ethnic minorities...
