More than 1 million people from Nghe An came to visit General Vo Nguyen Giap

(Baonghean.vn) - During the two days of national mourning, more than 1 million cadres, soldiers and people of Nghe An came to offer incense and flowers to commemorate the General.

People lined up on the night of October 12 to pay their respects to General Vo Nguyen Giap.

The nearly 80-year-old woman was unsteady on her feet and had tears in her eyes when she came to pay her respects to the General.

Late in the afternoon of October 13, when the funeral of General Vo Nguyen Giap had finished in his mother's hometown of Quang Binh, many people in Vinh city still quietly went to the altar at the headquarters of the provincial military command to burn incense and pay their respects to the great General. Earlier, since the morning, thousands of people could not hold back their tears when watching the live broadcast of the state funeral of General Vo Nguyen Giap on two large screens placed in the hall of the provincial military command headquarters, right under the General's altar.

Officers and soldiers of Nghe An Provincial Military Command and people observed a moment of silence to commemorate the General.

The solemn and emotional moment when witnessing the motorcade slowly carrying the General's coffin past Uncle Ho's Mausoleum, where President Ho read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and then slowly walking through the beloved streets of the capital, where 59 years ago, on a historic autumn day, the General and his victorious army returned to take over the capital Hanoi after "9 years of Dien Bien Phu", hundreds of cadres, soldiers and people present in front of the General's altar could not hold back their tears.

A baby was brought to the general's altar by his father, tears welling up in his eyes.

While waiting for the General's coffin to be transferred by plane from Hanoi to Quang Binh, thousands of people continued to come to offer incense and flowers to the hero, the legend of the nation. At 5:00 p.m., in the motherland of Quang Binh, where the General rests in peace, after completing the burial procedures, the leaders of the Party, State, family, cadres, soldiers and people observed a moment of silence to remember the legendary General. In Nghe An, the people and cadres and soldiers present at the General's altar also respectfully bowed their heads to remember the General's immense contributions to the Vietnamese revolution, the man who devoted his whole life to the country and the people.

Late in the afternoon, when the funeral program ended, people continued to line up slowly to pay their respects to the General.

When the funeral ended, groups of people continued to slowly, slowly enter… In that group, there were many elderly people walking unsteadily, many children being carried in the arms of their parents, many students, university students, and young volunteers. Everyone had tears in their eyes.

The Nghe An Provincial Military Command said that over the past two days, more than 1 million officers, soldiers and people inside and outside the province have visited the altars set up at the Provincial Military History Command and the Military Commands of districts, cities and towns. Not to mention tens of thousands of people and veterans have also visited the altars set up at the headquarters of the People's Committees of communes, wards and towns. At the altar at the Provincial Military Command headquarters alone, there were 367 groups of visitors with more than 24,000 people and tens of thousands of individuals and families who came to pay their respects to General Vo Nguyen Giap.
