(Baonghean.vn) - On Thursday, June 12, Syrian refugees continued to flock to the border area with Türkiye to avoid fierce fighting between Kurdish forces and IS jihadists taking place in northern Syria.

According to the latest statistics, over 13,500 Syrians have fled to the Turkish border in the past 10 days. Of these, on June 11 alone, the country received over 6,600 people. Last week, nearly 7,000 Syrian refugees also arrived in Türkiye.

In the face of the increasing wave of migration, the Turkish government announced its intention to close the border gates and border areas between the two countries. The press of this country quoted the Deputy Prime Minister as saying that Türkiye will not accept more cases of migration from Syria into its territory unless a humanitarian disaster occurs.

The Turkish Deputy Prime Minister also strongly condemned the failure of European countries to share the burden of accepting Syrian refugees. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, European Union member states seem to be standing by while Türkiye is struggling to accept the refugees.

Türkiye is known to be the country with the largest number of refugees from Syria, although it has severed all ties with the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad. According to estimates, there are currently about 1.8 million Syrians registered in transit as well as thousands of others being received in this country.
