More than 200 Chinese workers were deported from Vietnam

July 15, 2012 08:30

204 unskilled Chinese workers whose contracts at Fujan Industrial Equipment Installation Company (Binh Phuoc) expired were forced to return home.

On the morning of July 13, Mr. Huynh Xuan Hung, Head of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Binh Phuoc province, said that he had requested the departure of 204 Chinese unskilled workers of Fujan Company because their contracts had expired.

Previously, in March 2011, Fujan Company of China won the bid for the project of electrical and mechanical installation, construction of a chemical plant; M&E contract of the project of constructing the MDF wood processing factory VRG Dongwha in Minh Hung III Industrial Park. This company brought machinery and equipment and 237 Chinese workers to Binh Phuoc to work.

According to Mr. Hung, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs inspected and discovered that only 33 out of 237 workers had qualifications that qualified for work permits. The remaining 204 were unskilled workers who did not meet the requirements, so Binh Phuoc province did not issue work permits. “According to the provisions of the labor law, only foreigners with high professional qualifications are accepted, not workers without qualifications,” said Mr. Hung.

However, last year, because FuJan had implemented the project, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs coordinated with relevant agencies to advise the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province to temporarily keep these 204 people working normally but only allowed to move around within the permitted area and not go outside. Now that their working term has expired, Binh Phuoc province has decided to force these workers to leave the country.

Currently, in Binh Phuoc province, there are 87 Chinese workers licensed to work; of which 76 work in industrial parks and 11 work outside industrial parks.
