The "Journey for the Health of the Elderly" will be held in 63 provinces and cities nationwide from August 3 to October 1, 2014.

To celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the International Day of Older Persons and the 58th anniversary of the Vietnam Youth Union's traditional day, this morning (July 29), the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Young Physicians Association, and Nhat Nhat Company Limited jointly organized a press conference on "Journey for the health of the elderly".

“Journey for the health of the elderly” is organized in 63 provinces and cities across the country from August 3 to October 1, 2014. It is expected that the journey will have the participation of 3,000 young doctors, 5,000 youth union members, volunteers, 32,500 elderly people receiving medical examination and treatment, 500 elderly people receiving free eye surgery. In each province, the program will organize a discussion session to exchange experiences in organizing volunteer activities for community health among young doctors with the participation of 150 young doctors/province.

In Hanoi, the launch ceremony of the journey will be held on the morning of August 3 at the Thanh Xuan District Culture and Sports House. Immediately after the launch ceremony, doctors from the Vietnam Young Physicians Association will organize medical examinations, health consultations, free medicine distribution, and gifts for the elderly, retirees in the provinces of the Red River Delta (each province and city has from 500-1,000 people), policy families, social protection centers, and elderly people in difficult circumstances...

In addition, "Journey for the health of the elderly" also organizes free eye surgeries, gives gifts to the elderly; conducts screening for cardiovascular diseases, geriatric diseases for the elderly; promotes organ and cornea donation among the people and youth; conducts screening to detect elderly people with serious illnesses and put them on the list of organ transplant recipients of the national organ transplant program; promotes health care for the elderly and their families; organizes seminars and exchanges of experiences in organizing volunteer activities for community health among young doctors.

Activities in the journey will be held simultaneously in 63 provinces and cities. The closing ceremony is scheduled to take place on October 1 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Ba Tinh - Vice President of the Vietnam Young Physicians Association emphasized: "The journey for the health of the elderly in 63 provinces and cities across the country is a practical activity, affirming the role of young people and young physicians in taking care of the health of the elderly, showing gratitude to those who have contributed to the Revolution; strengthening solidarity, gathering young physicians in community activities, thereby continuing to affirm the role, position and prestige of the Association towards young people and society, contributing to the cause of protecting, caring for and improving the health of the people in general and the elderly in particular"./.
